Yes and no. The battle system is a lot more polished but I think 64's chapters were more fun overall. Both are excellent games.

I prefer the original but gameplay wise TTYD is definitely better. Story is better also since it's not just Bowser kidnapping the Princess, but it might have added too much for some people, I didn't mind it personally, felt refreshing. The rest the OP listed is about on-par (ignoring the visual style which I feel 64 has way better).

my biggest gripe with ttyd is that all the battles take place on a stage in front of an audience, it really killed the atmosphere for me. It should have only been for the glitz pitz level.

Prologue is probably the worst since the boss fights feel so slow without timed hits. I remember liking to talk to everyone and it sets up everything for chapter 1 really well though.
I can't remember if I have ever played chapter 2 not know exactly what to do in the village so that part is kind of lost on me. Closest thing you get to open world in PM which I liked. Good dungeon and I liked how enemies progressed, battle system starts to shine.

Guy who rated 4 the highest here, curious as to why people like 7 so much. I always found that it sorta dragged, and I was hoping for a lot more out of the "figure out which of your partner's is real" parts that just never really went anywhere. I will admit, the final area is probably the coolest, but I prefer Toy Box for the overall package.
