I haven't played SMB3 or SMW in like 20 years. But I seem to remember liking SMW a bit more because of polish and variety. But SMB3 was more challenging. I'll have to replay them on my 3DS sometime.

Super Mario World set my gold standard for Mario. Tone, colors, you name it.
NSMBWii came closest to it, despite U's efforts. Sunshine was a worthy depiction in terms of art style but setting kind of limited it.
I'm just sad that there is no longer a Dinosaur Land but Yoshi's Island was expanded upon and Rexes and Dino-Rhinos are roaming the regular Mushroom Kingdom.

I don't think drawing comparisons between 2D and 3D Mario games is fair, that being said SM64 is still my favorite Mario game to date. SMW has the best romhacks though.
SMW has aged better than SM64 and slightly better than SMB3 in my opinion. All of them are good, but SMW is my top Mario game.
I honestly have never likes SMW no matter how many times ive picked it up.
