The story in SC2 is utter shit but I found the stages and challenges proposed by each mission to be better than what WC3 was.

I still don't know how WC3 happened. Considering WoW and two subsequent expansions built directly on it, I can't help but imagine it was a fluke. Either that or people who were actually responsible for it left and then Metzen tried to pick up the pieces.
