How's everyone finding Uncharted 4? I've just come out of the pirate's grave and I'm still waiting for it to get good. The graphics look nice but the framerate suffers for it, Drake holds his guns like Michael J. Fox in a bouncy castle, the combat is basically peekaboo for grownups (when is sitting behind a wall doing nothing ever fun or engaging?) the platforming/climbing is mostly 'follow the white paint to the next cutscene', the cutscene/gamplay ratio is on-par with MGS4.

The biggest kick in the teeth so far was 10-15 minutes of cutscenes broken up by playing Crash Bandicoot before it throws you into more cutscenes, as if to say "Remember when we games that were loved for their gameplay?"

It's a solid 7/10 I think. I don't see why it's getting so much praise in the media, other than being a high-profile game.

>Downgraded 4
It's a console game Anon, if you seriously believe it's going to look like the development bullshots that's your own damn fault.

Shame it's not on PC though, if you could mod it and disable that terrible motion blur it could really be this gen's Crysis. naughty dog could do beautiful things with a pair of GTX1080s.
>>
>>337227636
Remember all the threads claiming the bullshots were in-game?
I do. I have them screencapped on my laptop but it's out of power right now and I'm lazy.
>>
>>337227798
I do, people posting them claiming them to be legit were either shitposters or morons and no offence but anyone who believed them are definitely the latter.
>>
>>337227279
It really is quite similar to mgs 4
Tons of cutscenes. Very little good uninterrupted gameplay. Too much shitty gameplay in the climbing and exploring.
Also Madagascar is the only good memorable set piece.
Actually inferior to 2 and 3
Grappling hook is pretty cool tho.
2nd half of the game all being jungle is fucking terrible
>>
Just beat it. 15:10 played, 50/109 treasures. Time doesn't include cutscenes, at least an hour more.

Yes, the intro is slow and there are lots of cutscenes. It picked up once I hit chapter 8 or 9 ish.

A lot of the best parts are late, chapter 17+. Really solid gunfights and action pieces. Don't wanna spoil it, but ND seems to have ditched "scale" for quality. No plane crashes or hanging from trains, but lots of chase sequences (best yet) and crumbling architecture.

I give it a 6/10 up until chapter 9, then from then on its a consistant 9/10+.

Although the tone is different I don't know if I would've enjoyed Uncharted 2: More Graphics edition. I don't like Sam Drake or care for him, but the Elena/Drake dynamic saves the charater interactions.

Sully didn't do much, would've liked more of him.
>>
The story makes no sense. Why the fuck didn't Nate check back on Sam after escaping that prison. I mean 15 years is a long time, surely Nate must've once thought that maybe Sam didn't actually die. It's not like he saw him get shot.
>>
>>337228350
Sam does mention that he looked Sam up and every indication said "he's dead", not "he might be alive"
>>
I agree with you OP. But framerate seem pretty consistent to me, and the game looks spectacular.

The gameplay portion of the game however is lacking. The platforming sections are as shallow as ever, I don't think anyone finds them fun when you don't even have to time your jumps because Drake is attrached to ledges like a magnet, but that's as it has always been in Uncharted.
Level design in non-combat zones feels too open considering there's nothing in them, and you just find yourself walking through a barren area without any objective, the occasional useless treasure isn't enough of a payoff. Combat sections are a little better, and certainly it's the best part of the gameplay, but there simply aren't enough of them and it can get stagnant after a while because enemy AI is mediocre and level design/weapon variety doesn't offer too many possibilities.

It's clear the game shines as a cinematic movie, because directing, animations and graphics are really something else, it's a very detailed game.
But after the good package overall that was TLOU, I'm a bit disappointed.
I still have to finish it, but so far it's a 6/10

This, I like the game, but I wasn't expecting this long of cutscenes in Uncharted.
>>
Somebody post those gifs/webms of that scrawny woman somehow overpowering Nate like it's nothing.
>>
>>337228670
>enemy AI is mediocre
I've found it to be really good so far, I find myself getting surrounded a lot because I'm used to not needing to pay attention to where enemies are. Have I just gotten lucky with it?
>>337228963
That fight was dumb as hell, after all the shit Nathan has been through it's inconceivable that he couldn't land a hit on her.
>>
>>337228350
Are you forgetting the cutscene that shows Sam get sprayed by bullets, spit out blood - directly in Nathan's face mind you - and then fall 15 - 20 feet off a high wall through a roof?
>>
>>337228670
Toward the end, the platforming gets better with the piton. It's not much different, but it feels a lot more game-y, with jumping away from a ledge and timing where you want to place your anchor. And that ties in with rope swinging and sliding later too. It's good stuff.

The shooting in the game is the best the series has done yet. You don't get time to hang around cover for long. The AI moves often and try to flank when you're spotted. Varies though.

>>337227798
Game looks fantastic. It's not 100% consistent but it's the best looking game this year. I don't know what specific bull shots you're mentioning, but a lot of those were from cutscenes, which are rendered in engine and in real time, not pre rendered. I think the only bull was the 60 frame reveal.

Art style and whatever wizard AA solution they came up with ties the look of "fucking great" together.

Were it on PC, would've looked better yeah. Gotta give props where it's due though.

Btw I didn't install the day 1 patch because I just wanted to play. Don't know what the real changes between them are yet.
>>
>>337229053

They do tone down. I wasn't expecting so much either, but I guess when you introduce a brother you gotta try to make the audience give a shit. The payoff is for plot twist, that untwisted itself pretty soon after, so the payoff of all that backstory is a bit mixed.

>>337228963
Well I played that part. She's pretty jacked (like her arms are massive for a woman) and Nate didn't want to have to hit a woman. She's head of a mercenary group. It's not a hard pill to swallow. Also Nate is much older.

There's a second fight with her and she takes on Nate and his brother and cleans house.

She cheats though, she uses karate kicks and shit. Nate don't know karate. And swings like a chump.

MGS4 was longer and had more game play than mgs 1 ,2 and 3. It just seems like there's less gameplay because it's spread out and the game focuses on character and story progression. I really don't know why people play these games if they don't like the story or characters though, to me it allows me to delve deeper within the game world and the minds of the characters and I honestly wouldn't mind if they expanded on this even more.

Literally not this. She's head of a merc group. I don't think her being a strong black woman means much in this game outside of the "I don't hit women" joke being made.

Also there are lots of misogynistic things said in the game by main characters. Sam and Sully are dogs. That stuff wouldn't be in the game if they were "pandering."

Or maybe they put it in to get me to think they're not pandering when they really are?? Fuck this paranoia is real. I need my gun laws to let me carry guns just in case the SJW boogeywoman tries to pull any shit on me.
>>
>>337229893
>I really don't know why people play these games if they don't like the story or characters though
That's the thing though, the story and characters are interesting and original. uncharted is just Indiana Jones without a hat scales some walls with His Mentor, The Love Interest and fights off nazi zombies or roided-out gorilla men or whatever. They'd really have to dig deep to be more generic and one-dimensional.

Nates fought a bit, but I'm not sold on him being trained in CQC. I mean I'm not sold on him being a free climber either but he is.

Small details like that are best left up to assuming they're just really good at what they do.

It doesn't end with deaths. "Thief's End" is a reference to two pirates who were fighting over gold, up until they killed each other surrounded by said gold in the hull of a pirate ship. Last boss fight takes place there.

It's more of a concept. "This is the folly of the thief" or something.

The game jokes twice about ghost pirates and I laughed, because the old games pulled that type of thing as a twist.

Not much to spoiler here.

Nah I think it's more "eh we're over it." I mean if I were fat I might be slightly offended by fat jokes if I had thin skin.

Pandering to body type is a super specific pandering that doesn't exist outside of pandering to the "pristine" body, which is everywhere. I don't think a character skin removal in a sequel is pandering. Would be if it were in game and then removed.

So far, I think:
>It's a pretty game, no doubt.
>There are a lot of wall details that look like you can grab them, but when you drop for them, you die. This was really bad at the Rossi estate.
>Combat tutorials lead you into thinking the game is motherfucking Time Crisis. It's a lot more fun when played as a stealth combat title. When stealth fails, hand to hand is actually pretty good in this one. Guns are for pussies, yo,
>I'm digging the story so far. Sam is a fun companion to have around, but I'm sure that after one play through, I'll never want to hear his stupid quips again.

7/10. At this point in 3, I was way more invested in the story. This is weird for me, because I'm all about pirate shit. I have cutlasses and maps adorning my walls. Commissioned pencil and ink drawings of tall ships are prominately placed, and I have one hell of a library devoted to wooden ships. Maybe it's that the focus is so heavy on Nate's relationship with Sam, and his dissatisfaction with retirement.

Is Captcha being a pokey bitch for anyone else?

But what is console without gaming? PC can't die because it can do more than just gaming.
>>
>>337231871
Pretty much this. Companies are making so much on microtransaction based casual games, that there's not a huge incentive to make great games.

That said, I love the Uncharted series. Sometimes you play a game for the story. Sometimes you play it for the gameplay. I know the instant reaction on here is that QTEs are the devil, and any game that has them must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But I don't mind them. Maybe it's that I almost never miss them. They just don't bother me any more than scrolling hitting X to advance an RPG text box.
>>
>>337231672
There's very little of that. And the last fight you're expecting QTE when it's more "read movement and press appropriate button without a screen prompt" which is QTE done right.

>no wonder blah blah
Do you usually leap to conclusions like that?

The future of gaming very well may be streaming, but I have my doubts. The infrastructure is nowhere near ready, and when it is, what is the advantage of streamed games over locally processed games? Distributed processing doesn't really makes sense for games. And we value low to no latency.
