Name one Capcom character that isn't a shameless ripoff.
>Street Fighter characters all stolen from manga
>Megaman stolen from Astroboy
>Resident Evil characters all stolen from 80s movies
>Dante based on Cobra
>Darkstalkers characters all stolen from classic horror
Have they no shame?

Name one original character in video games. Pro Tipyou can't
Why should they
What's your point?
If it makes you feel any better 3 out of 5 of those franchises are dead
>>337223779
There are plenty of original game characters.
The more retarded looking they are, the more likely they are to not have anything similar to them in any other media, I mean look at this fruitcake.
>>337223661
>Dante based on Cobra
wat m8
>>337223868
>Why shouldn't creators strive for originality?
>The world should be filled with derivative works because it's safer and it makes more money

>Darkstalkers characters all stolen from classic horror
>>337223661
>Dante based on Cobra
I mean I can see some of that but not really, he has no sexy voice nor a psychogun.
>>337224056
What's the problem? It's pretty much all movie monsters with a twist.
>>337223963
>the character was designed to fit Devil May Cry game designer Hideki Kamiya's vision of a "cool and stylish" man, and his personality was based on the titular character of the manga series Cobra.
There are also random Space Pirate Cobra references throughout the series.
>>337223902
So all you take into consideration for a character to be original is it's design?
>>337223976
You do realize you are being ignorant if you think there is such a thing as a work of art that isn't derivative
But you are memeposting so you probably are retarded
>>337224056
>He thinks classic horror characters existed in their modern incarnations before they were romanticized by the movie monsters of the 30s
Do you think that all that garbage about Mummies walking around slowly with outstretched arms comes from ancient egyptian stories? What a fucking mongoloid.
>>337224329
>There's no difference between the concept of all art being somewhat derivative because a human being will always be influenced by many things and someone straight fucking recoloring Astroboy and calling it something else
>>337224134
'classic horrors' based on other folklore or some shit.
what's the point?
>>337224501
When the 'classic horrors' took inspiration from that folklore, they mixed it up, made it fresh for a modern (at the time) audience. If you take the folklore of say a vampire, and compare it to a hammer horror vampire, it's a very different concept.
Then take a hammer horror vampire and compare it to castlevania, it's almost identical.
The fucking credits in Castlevania even spoofed classic horror names.
>>337224447
Your reply would be just as dumb without the meme arrow.
Was Astroboy a video game that defined the action-platforming genre?
>>337224893
Does that have anything to do with the character design? Would Megaman not have defined the genre if he wasn't a carbon copy of another design and instead they'd gone for a more original look?
Even the origin story and personality are a rip.
>>337223661
The context of their use, I think, makes them original enough to excuse. Solid Snake borrows a lot from Snake Plissken, but the latter is ultimately just a Byronic archetype for example, and applying it to a tense existentialist stealth game was a nice move. Same goes for Mega Man and Astro Boy, or tossing a bunch of Hammer horror inspired monsters in an over-the-top fighting game.
>>337224501
Don't be stupid
you're saying something really ignorant right now
>>337223661
>Dante based on Cobra
Excuse me?
>>337224707
>they mixed it up, made it fresh for a modern (at the time) audience
OP will say it's 'stealing'
>>337223902
And as it shows, originality =/= quality.

Omega Factor was god-tier, to be fair.
