I didn't like it but I loved the first game and Jak 3. Something about it just wasn't any good to me. They didn't really nail it the way they did in Jak 3 with the balancing of dark and light eco and the shooting in that game. It just wasn't an enjoyable game and wasn't up to the high standards that the original set.

I think the main reason I've always liked the J&D series is due to the world being so amazing
the Precursor technology melding with nature, I always thought that shit was comfy as fuck
the temples just being in forests and shit too
everything tied together so well in that world
the only thing I don't like about that world is that when you've finished the game in Jak 3 there are a lot of inaccessible areas, mainly in the sewers and the area that leads from the Precursor Temple in the Wasteland to Haven City

I liked it as a kid but it feels kind of shoddy upon replaying. I still like 3 as much as I did as a kid though, probably even more since it gives a Mad Max vibe. I think people mainly dislike the focus being shifted from platforming; it's still there, but it could've been explored or polished more. Might be the same reason why some prefer Going Commando over Up Your Arsenal.
