Got Some Questions about SSDs before I join the cause

1. How big is the difference between TLC SSD lifecycle vs a regular HDD lifecycle? Does TLC still win?

2.Between a slower MLC vs a faster TLC that is a bit cheaper, which is a better option in terms of daily use?

3.Is arconis true image basically the option for backing up your old shit or do you guys recommend something else?

4. Is there any limit to how many times you can reinstall your OS on a ssd (if my CS architecture class memory is correct)?

Fuck this is /v/. How the fuck did I end up in this cancerous board?

SSD lifespan varies greatly between different models, cheaper ones will die on you pretty quickly, make sure you can invest a good amount of money into getting a top brands. The best ones last just as long as a normal HDD.

Dumb question: Is SanDisk a top brand?
>>
>>337192595
samsung is the way to go, 10 year warranty on the pros and 5 year on the evos

Op here.
Sandisk, HyperX, Samsung, Crucial, Adata, and OCZ are all good,

Yes, have fun posting this in /g/ getting called a sucker falling for the ssd meme.

I don't like samsung cause they overprice their shit.

Then again, it probably is all that R&D that goes into making their tech compared to other companies that make deals to the tech from others

Most official hard drive back up software is just a branded flavor of acronis anyway
>>
>>337192595
Sandisk make some good ones but I'd definitely go for Samsung, the 850 evo is great while not being massively expensive.

Why do they think it's a meme? I upgraded to SSD a month ago and the read speed is noticeably faster than a HDD. Is it the usual contrarianism or do they actually have a valid reason against it?
>>
>>337193203
It was a bandwagon therefore a meme. Memes don't necessarily mean it is bad

SSDs have some downsides. They generally do not last as long as a mechanical hard drive and there's been issues with random data corruption and other general reliability problems. They also don't retain data when powered off for anywhere near as long as a standard HDD. Keep backups, like you should with any kind of data storage, and it'll be fine.
