You're in for a game similar to Zelda II or Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure. Its not a Metrovania, but still a 2D Action/Platformer in level design and progression. But it does take some skills from Metroid and Zelda 2 like speed dash and downstab.
Aside from that, the story and dialogue are pretty cringe worthy. But the gameplay is fun.

Like Vanillaware, they are a medium sized company who doesn't care about ratings or watering down their games to appeal to a wider audience. If they want to make a character sexy, they just do it.
That said however, WayForward isn't exactly the best when it comes to gameplay.
I don't even like grills but I find the games to be pretty fun and enjoyable.
Its definitely not just fapbait.
