Only the principle is accounted for in the money supply. The interest is not, meaning the debts can literally never be paid off. Only through default and surrendering things of actual values (property, not paper notes) can these debts be "settled".
In otherwords, the debt counters only go down to 0 when the bankers literally own everything.
