Was this the peak of the series technically and quality wise? Will we ever see it on the PS4 or PC?
>>
I'm replaying it, but the ps3 version to practice my moon.

I haven't played the series too much, but Vesperia has some really shitty dungeons that are literally a bunch of squared rooms connected corridors, or even just corridors without any puzzles or something for the sorcerer's ring (like the one I just finished, Relewiese Hollow). People shit on Symphonia for being too gimmicky, but at least the, dungeons felt more complex.

The overworld and the optional stuff is great tho (if you have gamefaqs by your side).

Later games take your issue with the dungeons and run with it. I can't remember a single puzzle in the Xillias and Graces' entire goddamn world was one long corridor.
>>
>>337112346
That's a shame. So, was Vesperia the last one with the classic formula of overworld, towns and dungeons?

Innocent dungeons were unbearable, but at least it had overworld.

I thought Vesperia's dungeons were alright. I would have liked more puzzles and both Symphonia and Abyss were better in that regard. Graces had some dungeons with puzzles like picture related. Xillia didn't, but that game was so fucking rushed it showed everywhere, not only when it comes to the dungeons. Zesitira's dungeons had puzzles but both the dungeons themselves and the puzzles were generally terrible.
>>
I'd say everything from the PS2 era to Vesperia was the peak. Really, things didn't start fucking up until they decided to merge the two teams.
>>
>>337113409
This is literally the only dungeon in Graces with a puzzle.
>>
>>337113618
That is pretty much my opinion, but I am a little hyped for Berseria. I didn't even play Zesteria, Hearts or Xillia 1 and 2.
>>
>>337113409

>>
>>337112598
Instead of an overworld, Xillia had a bunch of canyons that all look the same but with different colors

>>337113716
That's not true, there were a few others that did like Bathus Cathedral and the final main arc dungeon.
>>
>>337113818
Sandshroud Ruins wasn't mandatory. So I guess they thought it was okay. The only reason why I even went there was to get Book of Solitude.

Abyss with Vesperia's gameplay (+ FOFs) and graphics would be the perfect Tales for me.

Why do so many "die hard" tales of fans hate Vesperia? I've played a bunch of them and Vesperia was the only one I really liked. Rest is boring shit.
>>
>>337114307
It's more like people hate the fanbase. I don't understand why. Vesperia is still easily the best out of the HD Tales.
>>
>>337114307
Maybe because it was released on xbox and they refused to localize the ps3 version. Dunno
>>
I wouldn't know, I played for 10 hours with barely anything happening so I dropped it.

All the other Tales I've played (even Graces) had shit go down relatively early in the game, but in this it's just 10+ hours of chasing a fucking water thief.

Boring as shit.

it's more its availability. fans at the time bought a ps3 for jrpgs, and then vesperia came out on 360. to add insult to injury ps3 version exists, but it's jap-only and you need to modify your ps3 to play the fan translation. this leads to classic case of people shit talking about something they haven't played just out of spite.
>>
>>337114307
Sonyggers hating it because it's on 360. (inb4 some weeb pretends playing it in japanese that they don't understand is fun)

It's too late to translate and release the actual PS3 version and Scamco making just a PC port won't happen. My guess is that they will eventually make PS4 and PC versions, but I imagine it will have to be some sort of remaster or something, so it'll probably take a while until they do that.

I really want Vesperia on PC. I don't care if it's the gimped 360 version or the superior PS3 version, I want to be able to mod the game and play at a proper resolution.
>>
>>337114848
I remain cautiously interested. ToZ wasn't bad storywise but it wasn't great either. It was very predictable and kinda bland. Rose a shit
From what little I've seen of ToB it looks to be darker so it might be cool.
>>
>>337114993
emulate in PCSX2 if you want to play in HD with no loading times
>>
>>337114842
Vesperia is a bit of a different beast from other PC Tales games like Symphonia and Zestiria though. They would have to translate all the new parts unique to the PS3 version. Aside from that they would also have to scrap all the English voice acting from the 360 version and just release it with Japanese audio, because there is no way in hell they would be able to bring back all the old English voice actors. The PS3 contains double the amount of audio of the 360 version after all. I'm not saying it's impossible, it just seems like it would mean a lot more work than the other Tales games that have made their way to PC. I'll remain hopeful though, since it'd be nice if more people had the chance to play Vesperia.
>>
If you really want to play PS3 Vesperia just import.

This guide right there have literally everything you need.

http://hyouta.com/vesperia/
>>
>>337115397
Unless portability matters THAT much to someone there's really no reason to play the 3DS version because it's inferior in every way. Not to mention Abyss didn't look so bad that you want to hide it with smaller resolution and jaggies everywhere.
>>
>>337113813
Hearts R is alright, gameplay wise. Awful localization ruined what little merit the characters and story had.

I mean, I'm not saying Vita is a solution to all the problems, but Hearts R pretty much showed how it wrecked DS completely. 3DS isn't much better except it can actually render half-assed 3D models now.
>>
>>337115890
That's an almost entirely unfounded rumor but I wouldn't be surprised
What seemed likelier is the rumor that Vesperia development was hell because Bamco initially wanted a same-day global release or something like that, so after development was wrapped up they didn't want to relive it

I have no idea where I read this story and I have no clue if it's true or not
>>
>>337116332
>but Hearts R pretty much showed how it wrecked DS completely
I consider them like two different games. Gameplay is completely different, story is changed a lot, added a character in R.
I like both. But I prefer DS combat.

Hearts R is a poor example because the result is two very different beasts, neither of which is overall superior

Vesperia was the best Tales, no doubt about it. Best art style, best gameplay.

Speaking of Tales, how dark will Tales of Bears be? It has Edna's brother in it, and that nigga turned into a dragon.
>>

Pretty sure all the PS3 version-exclusive content has english voice work recorded, they just never released it because an english PS3 version never saw the light of day.
>>
>>337116826
Still wonder if this had something to do with microsoft in the west.
>>
>>337111308
Yes, Vesperia had perfect cell-shading style. Gameplay had some quirks, but was solid as well.
Every single console game after it looks worse, and characters are worse.
I've kind of liked Innocence R and Hearts R on Vita, but after playing Zestiria I'm done with series.
>>
>>337116826
I doubt they do, but still it wouldn't be hard to just leave the Japanese voices there or just take them out for the PS3 exclusive scenes if an English dub is all that important.

>Is Tales of Rebirth any good?

That and Vesperia PS3's patch mostly used text from the 360 version. The only reason why it didn't come out sooner was due to the project leader being a moron for a few by trying to apply DRM to the patch.

Rebirth's translation is completely from scratch and is a Multi-5 effort on top of that.

she will probably just be cut out of the roster early in the game like the rest of the cast will, for absolutely no reason except to accommodate the shitty party setup that the devs needlessly force on you

>>337121051
So they're the insane fanboys type?
>>
I've heard Zestiria is a step up from Graces and Xillia.

True?
>>
>>337122120
Xillia 2 is the best post merger game and Zestiria is easily the worst.
>>
>>337122120
Zestiria is Graces with everything that made Graces good ripped out

>Xillia 2

You ready to fucking operate?
>>

No. Even it's battle system is like a dumbed down Graces.

>Heterochromatic eyebrows

No matter how good Ludger's design is, this detail will always look stupid to me.
>>
Currently playing Xillia 2 after having finished the first one and I'm so torn on it. I mean, the fighting's pretty nice, with the weapon switching and all, and a lot of the designs were improved. Rowen a best but that decision to lock the voice acting of the main character behind new game + is so baffling... And some cutscenes animations are just so lifeless...

It's a strange ride.
>>
>>337117750
One day you're gonna git gud
>>
>>337122576
Agreed. I hide the hair color change by making him wear a hat, but these eyebrows, man. I'm making cats do errands in hopes to hide them with sunglasses. Then again, I played most of Xillia 1 with everyone wearing sunglasses. Except Jude, who wore two pairs at once.

>People shit on Symphonia for being too gimmicky, but at least the, dungeons felt more complex.

God, I don't even know want to know how simple Vesperia is if you consider Symphonia's dungeon to be more complex. Because they were a complete joke.
>>
>>337114223
Ps3 is region-free, senpai. You just need the disk.
>>
>>337123310
Actually, it can be region-locked on a game by game basis, but I think the only game that ever used it was Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
>>
>>337117913
Shouldn't we count Millia's belt levels for Xillia? Also, I'm pretty sure Ludger's holster (which is probably his phone case) counts as a belt level of at least 0.5.
>>
>>337123310
And it will magically translate itself?
>>
>>337123947
Someone posted a link to he full translation in the thread and it has the whole text there.

If you can't play play like that, then I can't help you.
>>
>>337111308
> Was this the peak of the series technically and quality wise?

Combatwise, not really. But as far as characters go... Yuri is the greatest Tales character. And it's because he doesn't mind doing "justice" his own way. And his brand of "justice" is straight up murder. Fuck the law.
>>
No Japan isn't going to double dip again they learned their lesson after what happen and got pissed and started to destroy their ToV copies for the 360 version.
>>
>>337123031
What? Not the person you're responding to but Symphonia's best quality is its dungeon design, which it does better than any other 3D Tales game (there ARE more puzzles; if you're just bandwagon shitting on a bad game, then fuck off. Everything else about the game basically sucks. Abyss does not have even close to the same quality of dungeon design as Symphonia (and every character sucks - yes, even Guy, for pointlessly pulling his sword in a meeting about saving the world). Vesperia's dungeons aren't as good either but I still like it the best because of the characters and combat.

This is my favorite meme.

>>337118079
Can't remember the designers name behind Ludger but apparently Baba hates that guy. Ludger was also described as "NPC" and not main character.
>>
>>337122232
Graces wasn't good either
>>
Innocence R where?
>>
>>337121645
She will either leave early and never rejoin or she'll be a pointlessly late game addition
Or maybe just a temp
>>
>>337114637
I want to believe. I sure as fuck won't be buying a 360 for a single game but at the same time I'd like to play vesperia eventually.
>>
>>337124994
Baba needs to be fired for being an incompetent tool

Also Ludger's design, barring the stupid ass hair color, is great.
>>
>>337125080
No kidding. I played the original and dropped it right as soon as I got to that volcano town after that fucking underwater dungeon.
>>

They'd probably have the same team that did Hearts R localize it and in that case we'd be better off just not getting in English and replaying Hearts R if you really liked the combat that much

>Vesperia will never see release in the west
>Vesperia books about raven and judith will never get these fan translations finished
I got plat ps3 version few years ago but it still hurts
>>
>>337125546
Eh, aside from that dumb decision to rename him Kor even though everyone else in the game calls him Shing, I didn't find it that bad.
>>
I haven't played a Tales game since Graces F, and can't really think of a reason why besides a tight budget and laziness. Is it worth going back and playing the ones I missed?
>>
>>337124770
Get those nostalgia filters off, Abyss dungeons were extremely well designed compared to Symphonia dungeons. The puzzles were also more interesting on the whole in Abyss, especially those using the later Mieu fire upgrades. The branches made this way made it feel rewarding when you completed them. Vesperia had some of this too, and made good use of the sorcerers ring to do it. Xillia was more like Symphonia in dungeon design than any other game in the series I have played. All dungeons were one path in and out, or just another high road to get past. I like the mystery of finding areas I cannot enter in a dungeon I am exploring at one point, but once I get past a certain stage of the game can access without issue and find cool new things to mess around with.
>>
>>337125820
>rename him Kor

Not him, but that isn't a clear indication of how little they care about the script itself, right? You basically played a rewrited game.
>>
>>337126367
I hardly pay any attention to things like that, desu.

Though, I can see how it would bother others.
>>
>>337115473

Don't forget that Yuri is voiced by Troy Baker, who has now deemed himself too above shovelware anime titles.

Laura Bailey is next. Though, I suppose they could just hire Alvin's voice actor to voice Yuri. He's basically Not-Troy Baker.
>>
>>337125820
Do they always rename the protags when they translate or something? Cless from phantasia became Cress or Crest something like that.
>>
>>337126663
I'm not certain. The only official translation of Phantasia is the GBA, so idk.

I recall his name being Cless when I played the fan-translated PS1 version.
>>
>>337125820
Were you only in it for the gameplay? Fuck man I don't know, it was really tl;dr and the dialogue was shittier than any other Tales and it had a huge impact on story and characters
Not to mention they limited the text to one section of dialogue boxes so the massive boxes just looked dumb as shit
That and the fucking Arte names holy shit how they fucked that up I just don't understand
>>
>>337127426
>That and the fucking Arte names holy shit how they fucked that up I just don't understand
>They actually changed the name of Super Lightning Blade
>>
>>337126663
It's always weebs flexing their muscles about romanization.
>>
>>337127594
Yeah, it was pretty clear whoever did the localization had never heard of the series before.
