The market seems impenetrable. Every niche is already inundated. The only thing I can think of is making a bot that queries the average price history for every item and autobuys anything listed for >2-3 standard deviations below it (ie. things people have mispriced).

Fuck this exact shit happened to me. I loved making gear for friends, FC members, hell even random people and helping other people level things by making things for them and I wouldn't even charge anything. I regularly made full sets of leveling gear for people even if they only asked for an item or two. Tried to do the same in HW but the bloat on recipes ruined that. Feels so much more tedious and takes a lot longer to make a full set now.

I've leveled an alt recently.
The leveling experience is great; even during the 2.0 portions it's great fun assuming you take your time and read all the dialogue and text (quest log updates, item descriptions, etc.). The state of the current endgame is absolutely woeful however: I've not done any of the 3.1/3.2 dungeons, Sephirot, Thordan EX, Diadem or Midas though because after 5 months of Neverreap the idea of doing any level-cap content ever again is painful.

At 50 you can earn some money depending on the market on your server. At 60 you can start getting a decent amount through aetherial reduction (dawnborne aethersand sells for 35-38k a piece on my server and with some luck I can get up to 6 of them from one ephemeral node with fairly cheap market board gear with no materia). I get a few million a day doing aetherial reduction between waiting for scrip nodes to spawn though I do have Miner at 60 too and those lightning clusters go for 800 each on my server.

The good thing about GW2 is that you have a more action combat and no suscription fees
FFXIV is like WoW with emphasis on story/lore and PVE, PVP is shit, crafting has depth and is only for people with time and money
combat is slower than most MMO's, but shares a lot in common with WoW mechanics
the vanilla game was great with content patches everything, this expansion has been devoid of content, you could squeeze a good amount of hours if you play it now
