If "the fans" want Call of Duty to go back to WWII, why do "modern" and "future" Call of Duty games sell so much better than any of the WWII ones?Where the hell did the idea that CoD is in some sort of decline that needs "saving" even come from, anyway? It's still on a decline, Ghosts really fucked up the series in comparison to MW3 and Blops 2.
I honestly don't think that the majority of people who buy cod want to go back to WW2 they want to stay in modern/semi-future warfare, no jumpjets just the same thing in a somewhat similar environment.
Depending on how well the seperate Cod4 game sells they might just say fuck it and have one studio just make modern warfare like games/remasters from here on out.

They sell better because the series has been very very popular the past decade.
The idea that CoD is on some for m of decline comes from CoD very obviously being on a decline. The past three entries have sold consecutively less and less. This new one won't be any different.
They know, however, that going back to WWII won't save that trend though, so they try out new directions, to ensure they will at least keep some niche markets engaged after riding out the wave.

Black Ops 2 is the second best selling game in the series.
According to VGChartz, AW sold 21.31M at retail for consoles.
Mind you, VGChartz also claims that Call of Duty: Ghosts sold 26.9M across all platforms, instead of the more commonly cited 19 million.
I wish Activision would give transparent sales numbers. Because retail data like VGChartz suggests that CoD games sell way better than Activision let on sometimes.

The true Call of Duty fans will refuse to buy Infinite Warfare. Literally 3,000 of us have signed a petition protesting Activision bundling the Modern Warfare remaster with Infinite Warfare for an extra 20 dollars. If they don't listen to us, Call of Duty will be dead in two years.
