Summon Solaire. They have you meet up with him at the bonfire for a reason, and it makes sense to turn a 2v1 into a 2v2.
Some people will be opposed to the idea of summoning for any boss for any reason, but the AI just doesn't function well in 2v1. Ornstein will stab you through Smough. Smough will try to plow through Ornstein. They are simply too dumb to work as a team, the AI is completely oblivious to the fact that they're even fighting together. The fight simply works better and looks better with a helper phantom. Plus, Solaire tends to die just before or after phase 2 starts, so you're back to a 1v1 encounter just in time.

That fight was fucking stupid. Most people went trough it by just exploiting the AI with the columns. Trying to fight them fairly is just chaotic, and all you have to do is hope you get lucky.

man i remember when i fought these guys. I didnt have xbox live at the time so i couldn't summon anyone. It took me 3 days to beat them. The rest of the game felt like a cake walk after that.
