Chronophantasma issue was that it was just trying to prolong what should of had been a short game in the first place anyway. Chronophastma feels more like a big set-up arc then a real conclusion to anything which I think Mori was going for. They give you enough info about the LN and Manga characters they introduce into the story. However the change could be explained in-universe by saying that Mai had trained with a wide variety of weapons. After all Mai in Remix Heart used weapons that she found in her environment rather than weapons that belonged to her. She was proficient with Shiori's assassination tools for example.
Mai switching to a spear from a sword would actually make sense considering the fact that she has turned to a woman, since women did historically use weapons with greater reach in order to compensate for their shorter height and lesser upper body strength compared to men. The use of the naginata by the wives of samurai is an example of that. Mai could have decided to switch weapons because a spear allowed her to compensate for her reduced reach and strength as a woman.

Pixiv is overrated as shit and something that 4chan likes to trick it's members into browsing cause you have to search in Kanji or Katakana like ブレイブルー or マイ ナツメ which means you're extra special if you can do it apparently. it's an art site and is mostly amateur artists so there are a lot of literal kids (seemingly many professional or older artists fall back to twitter or personal websites to upload things). there's also the part where pixiv members frequently delete pictures and profiles because as a culture they don't like having a strong public identity, thus many older pictures are gone and only exist if there were mirrors elsewhere prior to deletion. although old arts are small res and frequently have jpg artifacts sadly
