But the "fight" ends after a certain amount of time (once all the DMVs have had their scenes) which is much shorter than a half hour.

The DMV only plays while you're at low health in the first place.
If you don't reach low health it doesn't play.
I wasn't even well optimized and had no trouble staying healthy.
