Keep it up and try to get a decent male so you can breed him with the OP kunoichi mare you get later on.
I think just pray, I've had some bad luck with the RNG in the game, where it's almost impossible to get any chain going, so I'll end up having my horse runaway, which sucks midway through because it's nearly impossible to get back to the comfort zones. It's still a really fun game though.

How the hell are you supposed to make use of a lead charger?
You have to be so far ahead that you're completely out of the comfort zones, and it's basically just throwing your stamina and unity to be out there.
