That's an option for Nvidia, or on Windows. AMD on the other hand has the best open source drivers and if they attempt to degrade their quality the community can prevent it.
Microsoft's plan on the other hand seems to be locking you out of new hardware unless you buy into their new closed ecosystem. That though will similarly be thwarted by the existence of open source drivers and free software capable of using them like GNU/Linux.
Its a tough change to make, but its the only path forward that prevents these kind of stupid games.

Even if Sony sells you a supercomputer for $400, the devs will do what they normally do. They won't know how to use the power, they won't bother to optimize at all, and they'll spend all of the power on flashy effects rather than resolution and framerate.
You'll end up with 900p 24fps games still, they'll just look better.

You don't understand; I spent week planning and preparing for this. I started with a 960 and when doing comparisons the 960 was shit. Can't even 1080p 60fps most games although it's suppose to be the entry level card. So then I bumped up to the 970. Everything running at 60FPS 1080p. Shit feels good.

I ran into this once and they told me it was going to be out of my range (budget) and it IS (at 599.99) so I went with my 970 build, and then BANG! Fucking GTX 1070, stronger than a got damn Titan X with 8 GB of ram(I don't give a fuck if it's 7.5 it's still more ram) for nearly the same price as the 970. Fuck my life.
