Party composition is more or less left up to you; there are way more classes than you really need. I pretty much never touch Berrserker or Samurai, just Dark Knight, alchemist, Black Mage, Gunner, Warrior and Songstress. Occasionally thief for steals. Overall, it's a really fun game as long as you ignore the dumb plot (and it's my third favorite in the franchise besides FF VIII and XIII-2)
