Did mainstream nerd culture destroy gaming?
>>
>>337060971
my bae suzy
>>
The only thing that destroyed gaming is the incredible increase of development budgets.
>>
I want a cute Asian girlfriend, but I don't want an ice queen that will hate affection and be 建前 24/7. This paradox kills me.
>>
greed destroyed gaming.

Especially from greedy publishers making promises their developers can't make.

Once they sold out they couldn't make live up to their potential. It was always a rush here deadline there moment.

Then the whole push for if it has the graphics it's worth not having the content. People feel for it like complete idiots.
>>
>>337060971
yes

As soon as it became cool to be 'nerdy' Video game culture started to deteriorate and will continue to do so until we have all given up on it and the industry is dead
>>
>>337060971
No. Gaming still lives. Feminists and Social Justice Warriors want gaming dead, but gamers are too busy playing games to care. Also, anything going mainstream will make it cancerous.
>>
In a purely ornamental way, yes.
>>
>>337061757
Maybe if you ignore the fact that there are still hundreds of non-AAA games coming out
>I only consider games that have the highest marketing budget when complaining about insanely huge budgets
>>
Gaming destroyed itself 2bh.
>>
No, good games are just harder to find nowadays
>>
yes

the XDDD IIIM SOOOO NERDY crowd are casual as all fuck, so big games get targeted towards them, but they don't buy them anyway, so then the devs try to make the next game even more of casual borefest
>>
>>337060971
Partially
>>
>>337060971
yes
>>
>>337060971
I'm still so mad that these two didn't end up together.
>>
>>337060971
Absolutely.

>>337062117
And those hundreds of games are horrible indie games made in some premade game engine by some hipster faggots who don't know the first thing about game design.
>>
>>337062272
okay bro, you'll understand when you get older
>>
>>337060971
IMO, the only people that are convinced gaming is dead or dying only see the negative in games because they spend too much time on Neogaf, or 4chan's /v/
>>
>>337062334
Not an argument.
>>
>>337060971
The internet destroyed gaming. The internet created mainstream nerd culture. The internet made people lazier by showing how lazy everyone else already was.
>>
>>337060971

I don't know but Portal was the catalyst to it.
>>
>>337062412
why would I even attempt to argue with blatant generalization?
I'll be over here playing great games not made by AAA companies and also working through my backlog
you'll understand how stupid it is to get hyped for the newest open world collectathon or generic shootan in a few years
>>
>>337062610
I hate AAA cookie cutter shit just as much as I hate indie walking sims/procedurally generated nontent simulators.
>>
>>337060971
ctrl+f "games press" "games media" "games journalism" 0 results.

Lousy thread.
>>
>>337062753
Probably because they didn't have much of anything to do with it.
>>
>>337062723
then don't play either one and stop crying about the gaming industry
>>

America ruined gaming.

You can't deny this.
>>
>>337062890
>don't criticize the majority of games today goy
No.
>>
people that grew up gaming destroyed gaming

developers should be hobbyists in their development niche
nobody should ever "want to make games when they grow up"
everyone that did wound up being a talentless person, and that lack of talent went into their games
>>
>>337062958
Japan isn't much better. Shits being mad stagnant over there for a while now.
>>
>>337062987
what's posting about it on /v/ gonna do?
again, you'll understand in a few years that raging about MUH CAUALS does nothing
I would very much like for Stellaris to bomb but I can't do anything about people being plebs, for example
>>
>>337060971
this

>>337061757
caused this

>>337061832
which caused this

so sort of yes

Portal and TBBT were the big turning point, yeah.
>>
>>337060971
It was the dudebros first, then it was "nerd culture", but now the two are fighting for control and have ruined everything more than each could alone.
>>
>>337063228

Because the focus is on MURRICAN shooters, nothing else gets big budgets so everything ends up being retreads.
>>
>>337060971
>mainstream nerd culture
That should be mutually exclusive. What does that even mean?
>>

Shitty business practices and the dumbass consumers who go along with them destroyed gaming. The fact that DLC season passes exist and are actually bought is disgusting.
>>
Popularity killed the industry.
Things started to get made for profit rather than out of love.
>>
>>337060971
>mainstream nerd culture
There is no such thing. If it's mainstream, it's not nerdy.
>>
Equine Armor
>>
>>337060971
It was a domino in the effect so sure. Hopefully the video game craze ends and it goes to something like comics or card games so it can stay away.

>"haha the fucking stupid normies ruined gaming. /v/ has such good taste, normies ruined the industry by buying pleb games"
>*goes and makes another overwatch thread and a thread about how ebin the new call of duty game looks which both get over 500 replies*
>>
>>337060971
>aaah gaming turned mainstream

It has always been somewhat mainstream ever since the early days of mario
>>
>>337060971
No, then we would have a bunch of capeshit games but we don't. Companies just spend too much money making games and blow it on useless shit like realistic graphics or voice acting. This leads to them playing it safe on the game design part so they can make lots of money. That's why so many games are samey and dull. Games should go back to being low budget and not try to push hardware to it's limits because now if you want to push it to the limit you have to waste a lot of money.
