Back when Counterstrike was hitting it's all time high as a mod, it didn't have a server browser yet. Since comps were shit back them, alt tabbing was near impossible as well. So we would have to close the game. Bring up a website that had server IP's. Write down the IP since pasting didnt work in game. Then start the game back up. Enter the IP.
Now, here's the kicker. If the server was full or if ti wouldn't connect.
We would have to close the game, then test out a new IP all over again.

I think will COD:IW sell fine (CoD4 remaster will help), but I do think it might be the beginning of the end of the series as a mega-franchise.
The decline started with Ghosts and while AW and then BO3 and the future stuff halted the decline in the short-term, it just hasn't resonated in the same way as the old titles. I think there's general discontent about the direction the game is going.
The game to watch isn't COD:IW imo, it's the *next* one, presumably by Sledgehammer. I think a lot of people will stick with COD4, especially once they start selling it standalone.
