I agree. The original setting was nice because it was sort of down to earth for the Terran part which revolved around human factions clashing. Then you got to the Zerg and Protoss parts which made Terran feel sort of insignificant in the face of these two ancient alien races warring each other.
WoL had sort of a similar thing going for the parts that weren't about the artifacts or TIDINGS OF DOOM. Then they shat the bed in HotS and LotV by going full comic book heroes doing comic book things and Amon's ANCIENT EVIL AWAKENS shit. SC2 Kerrigan is probably the single worst character they've ever written.

Nah, it was just Medivh going nuts because his mom shoved a bunch of magic in to him and he was randomly corrupted. He was trying to conquer Azeroth himself, and decided the Orcs would be good for that, so he got in mind touch with Gul'dan, and Gul'dan took advantage of the situation, even telling Medivh to fuck off at one point until he told him about the Tomb of Sargeras, then he fell in to a coma as Medivh got hacked to death while Gul'dan was in his mind trying to get the location.
