It looks awful as shit in overworld environments and has very little atmosphere. Worse is that you can see they had it enabled it in the past and disabled visual featuers step by step, probably for performance reasons. Sometimes you cross an invisible boundary and get your character or debris from objects to cast a shadow, just so it's disabled a few steps later. Some lights are actual light sources while most are just recolered ground textures to make you think something is casting a light.
You notice this very fast and the game loses a lot of ambience from that. Don't pretend DaS3 is decent just because there are worse games. It gets carried by texture art and that's about it.

Yeah. I preferred DAS1's catacombs to Carthus. Darkroot wasn't great or big by any means but I hated the muddy colours of Crucifixion Woods. Farrons Keep ran better than Blighttown did but I loved Blighttowns verticality and the fact it led to Ashlake and linked back to New Londo. Archdragon was pretty cool, Irithyll dungeon was too despite not being too big, enjoyed Profaned too despite it also being small. Come to think of it they are my favorite linked areas and they are so small.

I never found the jailers much of an issue themselves, just run up, stunlock them in a combo. Perhaps sometimes you need a sippy afterwards but that's all.
