Remi was using everyone's desires for the world to persist, not their souls. So yes, Marche was directly opposing what everyone else really wanted.
The people that got turned into monsters don't factor in here because Marche never found out about them.
If you really wanted the plot to side with Marche you'd need to show these sort of things.

Marche never differentiates between normal and unhealthy escapism.

Dollar a day textile labor in Cambodia, Middle East torn by war and terrorism, degrading natural environments, ridiculous housing prices in the West. If these oppressed people have a chance of at least becoming a low rank Clan member that takes part in non-fatal engagements, I would definitely prefer Ivalice, because that world is overall better than the real one.

Marche was so obsessed with his escapism logic that he didn't have any intention of improving Ivalace. The only thing he really needed to do to make things better for everyone was just convince Mewt that he's being extremely unhealthy as a child ruler and should join a clan to make friends and see the world.
