I'm pretty bummed she isn't very good because I like playing dedicated healers. She just needs something else to make her good. Zarya is my favorite class, healer or no. Her shield recharges quickly enough that you can usually out-tank anyone bar Reinhart, and you can keep an assault or a healer alive at the same time to keep the pressure off you.
Her beam does really good damage at close range, and the grenade is good for pushing people back. She doesn't get as many kills as some classes, but there's nothing like walking into an objective and pushing everyone out of it. Shield, grenade, push in, take cover, repeat.

There's a reason I make sure to always go after them if they're on the enemy team. Getting them out of the way means my team can actually move forward instead of having to avoid his grenades. And then additionally, because most junkrats go off to the side to find a place where they can stand still and spam, once I get to them and kill them, I'm usually in a great position to flank the other team, so I can get on average 2 kills before dying myself, but then of course my team can just kill whatever's left.

No, Blizzard wants a game that is as inoffensive as possible while making even the biggest shitters feel good when playing. This is why every hero has these big ults that you get even if you have done fuck all for your team.

After about 10 hours I finally get how the heroes work. The divisions they have them in are completely retarded; not only are they unhelpful in terms of determining what hero your team needs they are actually detrimental (as are the "helpful" tips on the right)
A proper way to split them would be:
