What's your opinion on Bioshock Infinite? Just got it from a sale.
That's nice to know.
It's a pretty alright game imo. Just treat it as more or less of a spin-off as far as the gameplay mechanic changes.
>>336981091
Its a good game i enjoyed the story.
>>336981091
It's alright. Not as good as the first game but you can still get enjoyment out of it.
Straight foreward game with decent graphics and story, it tries to be deep but if you have a higher education you will pick up that its a crock of shit at times
enjoy
ps it takes 4 steps back from bioshock one
It's pretty enjoyable if you turn your brain off.
>>336981091
Shock of Duty.
Relatively medicore, but not a bad game.
Appreciate Elizabeth who is hot as fuck and has given a lot of porn.
It's bad but Elizabeth SFM porn came out of it's existence is justified.
>>336981091
Fun game. Crank up the difficulty and treat it like Quake.
>>336982468
Everything goes to shit in the latter third, though. All boss battles one after the another.
It's alright on your first playthrough
If you try to play through it again or give the story any real thought afterwards you start to realize just how little of it actually makes sense
>this far into the topic and no one has said it yet
I'm impress /v/. It's like everyone here has actually played it.
take everything good about a game series and throw it all away, saving only the name. that's what this game was. it even takes the world it establishes and throws that away too.
its alright. i'm playing it on ps3.
as a shooter, its gud, and thank allah there is no multiplayer. they did right focusing on the single player aspect.
>>336981091
Overrated. Worse than its predecessors.
It's overrated as hell. The plot is an incoherent mess and the gameplay is step back of the previous shock games. The best thing about it is that Columbia looks good.
Why did this game get 10/10s across the board if /v/ hates it?
>>336982715
Once in a blue moon /v/ isn't absolute dog shit. But now that we have pointed it out the scales will balance and someone will say it.
>>336983004
The same reason why MGS V got 95 on metacritics: video games critics are dumb.
>>336983004
Nobody really understands. i personally figure because it was the only genuinely ok game within a 7 month period.
>>336982715
>>336983028
It's a good game & great story. Don't listen to the hipsters saying it's worse than the previous games.

And Skyrim
And the Mass Effect Games
And loads of other games

WAIT A MINUTEBOOKER CATCH
>>336983004
When it came out, if a game was pretty it was praised. If a game was about the story and not the gameplay it was praised.
And Infinite is real god damn pretty, and the story was the main focus.
>>336981463
>gameplay mechanic changes
You mean regression and simplification.
>>336981091
Fun game. Somewhat dumber than its predecessorsexcept for BS2 which was xxxtra dumb
>>336983004
the same reason any game gets 'awards' and high scores
>>336983004
because (this may be shocking) /v/ isn't always right.
>>336981091
Overrated! The gunplay is kind of boring! Story is enjoyable though
>>336983004
/v/ liking or disliking something has absolutely no measure on how "good" a game is. The bottom line is if you have fun playing it then it is a good game. That is what games are meant to do, be entertaining.
That isn't necessarily /v/ being full of assholes as it is that everyone's tastes vary, game reviews for big websites and magazines should be ignored across the board, and the vocal minority of people shit posting are often given credibility they will never deserve.
>>336981091
It's a real mind puzzle bender. I was stuck so long on this one puzzle, I looked it up, and ended up just watching the guy beat it. GameStop doesn't give refunds or anything if it wasn't new when I bought it (how I got stuck with Kingdom Hearts) so you know. If you want a copy I got one. $50 I need restitution for my time and effort, he really sucked at the game so the Lets Play took a long time.
>>336983004
Because of waifu bait along with babby's first plot twist. Generally the people that praise Infinite for its amazing story are the people that don't really play video games. Or have even read a book for that matter.
>>336981091
I appreciate how deeply it delves into racism without pussying out. It's good.
>>336981091
It's an enjoyable if kinda unoriginal story for like, the first 4/5 of the game. The last part, and you'll know it when you get there, goes utterly fucking off the rails batshit crazy and pretty much drops any pretense of being a game and just starts piling on schizo shit.
Fun game. Not as good overall as BioShock, but the weapons were fun to use, I enjoyed the Vigors, and really loved the game's overall tone and theme.
I also loved the visual style, really beautiful. The whole opening part was just gorgeous and atmospheric.
Also I love that it ran so well on my laptop and my toaster. Being a poorfag I'm always grateful to the programmers when they optimize their code so games will run well on older hardware.
Faster gunplay than the other 2 but fixes nothing otherwise
Bulletsponge enemies in a nonRPG game.
Plasmids being a support ability you rarely ever use due to only being able to use them a few times ever.
The atmosphere is nice though.
>>336983004
/v/ hates everything especially vidya games
>>336981091
I want to fuck Elizabeth.
>>336983348
I enjoyed it but I went into it expecting to be able to shotgun sky capitalists with a shotgun, ride on a rail using a hook, and fall in love with Elizabeth. I got to do all those things so I had fun.
The less you think about it, the more you'll enjoy it. I had fun and enjoyed the plot, there are many who will say otherwise.
>>336983510
>if you turn off your brain it's good I swear!
>>336983472
why? she's just a girl
>>336983415
Actually, I take it back. Having to skyhook and sneak onboard that airship at the end MGS-style was pretty fun. But it really does just completely lose its fucking mind, plot and story-wise before that point.
>>336983591
not quite what I was saying, but whatever.
>whoa check out this place
>it's city in the clouds floating in the motherfucking sky!
>how badass is this right guys????
>im glad you think so! now enjoy being indoors for the entire game except for level transitions, have fun!
>>336981091
got really tired of all the boring waves of mobs, its just one big shooting gallery. friend lent it to me, beat it and never touched it again.love all the sfm futa Elizabeth porn though
>>336983825
to be fair, the first two games were just as bad for that shit.
decent enough for a single play through unfortunately
I dropped it after the first time line shift or whatever. Should I have kept playing?
>>336981091
Mediocre gun play to push an okay story. I didn't hate it but I did hate the reception it got.
>>336984295
I'm playing through again on 1999 mode and am enjoying it.
It's basically what the game should have been from the start.
>>336983004
Because critics were afraid to say that plot was confusing or dumb in case someone accused them of not understaning it. So everyone was like 10/10 most amazing story ever. Anyway this guy made a video that perfectly sums up all its flaws. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdNhwb7iuI4 The fact that weapon upgrades exist in a 2 weapon limit game with scarce ammo is astounding,
>BULLET
>SPONGE

>>336984638
>post an image and close the tab hoping nobody replies to that post
>>336981091
7/10 gameplay. Some guns are pointless since they are inaccurate and ammo is scarce. Some tonics are pointless too since much of the game consists of being attacked by multiple enemies at once or fighting a boss immune to certain tonics. Not to mention bullet sponge enemies.
8/10 story for half of the game but quickly becomes a 4/10 when they introduce the stupid multiverse aspectthere's some ghost bride boss and some zombie enemies that literally have nothing to do with the story
>>336981091
I liked it a lot.
the story is a bit dodgy, and like all time travel/multiverse stories, it has logic flaws.
the gameplay is solid, but unspectacular.
it's a very pretty game, good music and VA's.
7/10 imo, it deserved neither the overwhelming praise of critics, nor the disdain of angry neckbeards
10/10
The graphics were top notch, the music...okay I admit I didn't like, but I don't know if my taste in music is 10/10 material.
The visuals, my god, I've seen my share of things. I've been alive for 20 years, and I liked seeing this. I just almost couldn't blink because I didn't want to miss it.
Gameplay? That doesn't factor into my score. I'm like that, I prefer stories and interaction, characters who play off one another.
I found the control actually a little suffering, because it used too many buttons.
I stand by my 10/10 because a better gamer than me would do better and appreciate it.

the start seems so promising but somehow i just couldnt enjoy it that much
>>336981091
I tried so hard to like this game. I don't know how there are people on /v/ who enjoyed it, given that my tastes in video games are as normalfag as it gets by comparison to this shithole
i went through the entire campaign to get to the Burial at Sea DLC so that I can see the 201x reiteration of rapture and I just gave up with how shallow the gameplay was, it felt like a bootleg by comparison to the first 2 games.
>>336981091
it's garbage. The gunplay is boring and filled with mechanics that lie between useless and contradictory. The pacing is constantly broken and padded by sending you on wild-goose chases which invariably always end up disconnected to the progression. The characters make the downright stupidest leaps of logic and create plans that would be inconsistent even before you realize they're breaking the rules that they themselves introduced.
The story is dumb and believes it's smart. It briefly touches on some subjects like racism or time paradoxes with absolutely no confidence and never delves into them, but brings them up from time to time as if it's proud of what it's done.
In comparison with the other bioshock games, its biggest flaw is the lack of atmosphere. Bioshock 1 had you trapped in a cage with grotesque monsters ready to drop from the ceiling and stab you in the neck, Infinite has you hopping around a quaint american paradise where everyone is terrified of you.
That said, it's got some gorgeous art direction, even if many things don't make any sense at all, and there's a lot of audiovisual rewarding to make you grow attached to elizabeth. It would've worked a million times better as a myst-like exploration puzzler than a shooter.
>>336981091
Dishonored was the real Bioshock III.
>>336981091
Great game, not as good as the first. Gameplay is less tactical, more typical FPS fair. The story is still strong as fuck. The Second Burial at Sea episode was amazing. Did wonderful things for Elizabeth's character. Their last exchange in the elevator tugged at my heartstrings for some reason.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE3xg3aY3yo
Okay I really don't understand the posts here.
The only things the game succeeds in are:
The beautiful world (aside from lol all npcs are suddenly gone as soon as a gunfight erupts)
Some interesting concepts
That's it
You then have
Shit bossfights
boring vigors
shitty, boring shooting sequences
plot holes
>>336988921
It's really quite simple. Let me break it down for you.
>People have different opinions than you.
>Its not the end of the fucking world.
>>336989324
No, I totally get that.
The thing is that the others mentioned the flaws like they were only a small nuisance. In fact, the bullet sponge gameplay and the non-sensical plot, however, are vital parts of the game. So you can't just say "it's good despite the plot holes and gameplay"
Very good game.
But if you're gullible for /v/ memes, you won't like it because it's "pseudo intellectual".
Also the DLC is really good, specially the second one
>>336981091

Video games are not art.
>>336990043
So you agree that the game fails as a whole. Fantastic, discussion over
>>336981091
Thought it was shit and hated it. Enemies are to bullet spongey, and there's no freedom what so ever and the two weapon limit really killed it. And the Plasmids or whatever just didnt seem as good or fun. Most of the time I went through with just a sniper rifle/carbine. Shame to really I was really looking forward to it and the settings neat
>>336990417
That doesn't even begin to make a sense.
Why is book or movie more of an art than videogames?
>>336990417
God damn it Ebert. Art is a fucking subjective human construct that is fucking impossible to classify. Individual humans with individual minds create. So it is up to the individual to decide what constitutes art. Since it is impossible to classify it must be agreed that all forms of human expression can be considered art. You can't go saying that shit like it is a fact, now get back into your fucking coffin and shut up.
>>336988921
>The beautiful world
What's aggravating is that your introduction to Columbia is great, there's so much color and splendor to the settings, you really feel like you've stepped into a utopia city in the clouds
the game turns into just standard corridor FPS setting pretty quickly, though, and any sort of deeper meaning with the Columbia setting being a nationalist's paradise gone too far is lost when they decide that first they need to talk about parallel universes
>>336985270
It is that bad.
>>336985734
>but brings them up from time to time as if it's proud of what it's done.

/v/s opinion is very bandwagony
thats all, not always a bad thing
Game is good if you like narratives. Story and philosophy is interesting.
if your main interesting videoames is the gameplay (combat and stuff), it might start to feel repetitive and dull. Some things like useless npc allies, collectibles and forced dialogue/sequences upset people. And the fact that you never fight the big bird.
>>336992652
as someone who likes narratives, could you explain to me how the Chen Lin section isn't entirely retarded?
>>336993248
The bell section at the beginning was retarded to right? Not a way to introduce the player to a theme? It was a puzzle right? Not a invitation method?

>>336996395
how so? Maybe I expressed myself poorly
Looking at the first few minutes of each game after the story dump is over and you gain control.
In Bioshock 1, you've just arrived in the bathysphere into rapture, and even though it looks fancy from the outside, the inside is cracked, worn, flooded and full of damaged electrical wiring. You are completely defenseless and it's extremely dark. A splicer crawls up to you and attempts to cut through the bathysphere with the hooks its holding. The splicer is deformed and hardly human, and once it jumps on the bathysphere, you can only hear the screeching of the metal. It eventually gives up, and retreats by jumping some 20 feet into the roof. You are unarmed, in the dark, ill equipped to fight and pitted against enemies who are literally insane.
In Bioshock infinite, you've just picked up a baseball to throw at a biracial couple when someone notices a sign on your arm, which you were alerted to and could've easily covered up, that means you're literally satan. You are surrounded by white upper class americans who are scared shitless of your mere existence. As the guards attempt to attack you, you facefuck one guard with a spinning hook, which you can later use to leap 20 feet into the air effortlessly. The other guards are hesitant and when they attack, they do so in an uncontrolled and untrained manner that doesn't fit their design in any way. You go on a rampage through a town that continues looking as clean and pretty as it did when you first saw it.
in 1 I was fucking terrified to walk out into the dark, and having a wrench didn't help matters much. in Infinite I was feeling sorry for causing so much trouble for all the townspeople and I felt like a goddamn monster jumping all over town killing all their cops

Oh and it has one of the better waifus in recent games.
>>336998049
I like how you separated critics from professionals, pretty subtle
>>336998251
Ulysses is dumb for a completely different reason than Fantasy War of Roses
nothing says we spent a third of the budget on the first half hour of the game better than infinite.
It's a sad mess.
The gameplay feels like a neutered version of B1+2. There's none of the depth that hacking, ammo, security, plasmids, enemies and environment gave you in those games. They included some of the stuff, but they didn't use it as well as in B1+2.
The environments are less interesting. There are a few nice touches, like the museum, but overall it's a bit meh. In B1+2 every area told a story, had a purpose, showed us a new side of Rapture.
The story was a clusterfuck. It seems they wanted to go for the emotional impacts and for setting up important scenes, and then tried to explain why they happened using their science. Which just makes it all seem terribly convenient and lazy.
You lose your memory if you're taken to another world, but only if it's done this way. You get special powers if you lose your finger in another world. The protagonists are idiots most of the time and ignore easier ways out while spending time doing dumb objectives - hey, they had to keep the game running somehow!
It's not a terrible game, it just doesn't do anything that B1+2 doesn't do better.
I think it managed to, well, "fool" many reviewers.
On one hand it's because it seems deep, it seems like a "real" story (TLoU is another example). Throw some themes in like racism and time travel and present it like a film and you're sure to get noticed by reviewers. It's like Oscar-bait.
On the other I think many forgive bad gameplay too easily. If it functions then it's a 7/10 already.
Having played the fuck out of the first two, I was really pumped up for Infinite. And it just made me sad, I'm not even angry at the game, just sad and disappointed.
Not as legendary as bioshock 1 or 2 but still loved it. You should get the dlc too
If taken out of any context or comparison - pretty decent game. Combat is so-so, but hey, it's a shooter, what are you expecting? The plot literally falls apart in final 1/4 of the game, so just don't think about it and simply push forward.
When compared with Bioshock 1 - a combination of back and sidestep. Gameplay goes from so-so to subpar
I've kind of miss all the stuff that brought me to the game in the trailer. But between the gameplay trailer and game release there were almost two years of development, so the game shares title with the stuff I wanted to play.
>>336981091
You paid too much.
The gameplay is functional. That's probably the best way to describe it. It's not bad, it's not average too, but there is absolutely nothing special or significant in it. Numerous minor elements feel as if someone simply cut them out from the development, but it was too late to remove them fully.
Plot goes progressively mind-numbing bad. Not because it's hard to comprehend, but because characters act like a bunch of idiots. Literally half of the plot revolves around getting yourself a ship. While jumping through dimensions. It never occured to the characters that new dimension reduced their objective moot - they just keep pushing, which in practice works like your average B movie script - things keep on going, because you need to get into action somehow.
Still, if you ignore (or even embrace) such storytelling and look through fingers on simplified gameplay, it's still pretty nice game. Nothing spectacular, but far from failure and definitely above average.
You know, like 6,5/10 on scale which gives 5 to absolutely and completely average games that don't have any special features and are simply functional
