Undertale, after the Toriel fight. I did the first thing that came to mind by slowly hitting her to get to a point I could spare. Reloaded afterwards and did it the pacifist way. Apparently someone was watching.

Alternatively, playing through the two Library missions in Halo when I was 6 was pretty creepy at the time.

Believe it or not, Black Mesa nailed the atmosphere in the right places. I was purposefully walking through the beginning areas of Questionable Ethics because I was afraid of what was around the corner, even though the original HL1 wasn't anything to fret over.

More of an unnerving than scary moment, but this part just abruptly pulls you outta the game and speaks of a very real issue. The world within the game even seems to fall apart, code floating in mid air, Fortune deflecting bullets, and the city people not giving a shit about two military guys standing in the middle of the streets.

Did anyone play that game Prey? You play as this native american faggot who has to save humanity from aliens. Watching people getting abducted and falling prey to the machines on the UFO scared me way back when it first came out. I think I played the demo on my fat 360.

Alternatively, the Prison in Amnesia scared the absolute shit out of me.

There is a part early in Condemned 2 where you open up a mirror cabinet and close it. Then theres an enemy behind you. That made me lose my absolute shit.

The knife ending of 999 got me pretty good.

The entirety of Alphys' real lab unnerved me quite a bit. Though Flowey remembering I killed Toriel sent shivers down my spine

Never played PT because it got removed. Wish I had got the chance.

Oh and the giant metal shark/fish thing from Banjo Kazooie made me piss myself

A mission in Hacknet made me required to induce a heart attack in a guy. I could refuse but that would not be cool due to context

So basically, an old guy has several heart diseases and is in constant pain. He's been fitted with a pacemaker but he wants to die, and the doctors refused to euthanize him. His family tried to help him die but they failed and cannot do it anymore, and so, one of the family members had the idea of contacting the hacking group you are in and surprise surprise you got the mission. Due to it's nature tho, you can refuse it due to how fucked up it is and what a sudden change and shift it is from the general mood of the game. You need to hack into the pacemaker developers' company site and get a program that is supposed to stress the pacemaker as in to check out if it works. If you run it on the pacemaker, the person will finally die of a heart attack. You need second access to the pacemaker itself for absolute admin rights tho. It's fucked up

Friendly strong suggestion anon. Play them in order, original PSX, Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, Guns of the Patriots.

If you must, at least watch a complete playthroughs untainted by stupid streamer or lp narratives. Actually experiencing them directly yourself is infinitely better, of course.

it was a tough time to be a kid

999 actually gave me that same feeling I got from when I was a kid where you speed walk to and from the bathroom at night out of some unknown fear. Kinda strange but it was nice to feel that feeling again.

These guys had the same effect on me as the redeads in OoT. Really unnerving to the point of dreading having to fight against them

Holy shit. The Robocop 2 one isn't too bad, just unsettling and yeah could disturb some kids.

But that Alien 3 one, FUCK. I'm used to the SNES which is a different kind of creepy. But then that classic sampled quote: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_3pkxiM2Us

Also, the music in that Genesis version as the chestbursters come out. Pretty cool.

The entirety of Condemned 1 and 2, but the bear scene and the mannequins especially.

That one part in Oblivion where you go into the basement of Anvil's Lighthouse. It's that weird sound playing in the background that got me uncomfortable.

Fucking this. I really thought something was at stake during the fight. I really felt like I had to win. First time a vidya actually had me like this.

I wish 2 had gotten ported to PC. It was a weirder game than 1, but the combat was still pretty fun. That beat scene was tense.

STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl, that atmosphere when exploring the underground labs is still unmatched to this day
>>
Silent Hill 1 was pretty dope but Silent Hill 2 was the GOAT. It has unmatched music, atmosphere, story, etc. One other game that I feel is noteworthy is SCP Containment Breach. The rouge-like elements and different types of monsters are awesome. Most horror games now are shit tier walking simulators with no combat like outlast. SCP probably falls into this category but I enjoyed my time with it. Horror games now are often not scary, just retarded jumpscares.

Best atmosphere, sound, and psychology in a game ever.

If you allow yourself to get into it, SS2 is fucking terrifying

Yeah, the gameplay isn't that great. Still worth a try though for people who like Japanese horror films.

The horror genre is seriously lacking these days. I just want a game (or even a movie) that terrifies me, but knows when to pull back.
The creators always either fail to scare me shitless, or try to do it so much that it becomes the norm.
I just wanna be spooked, is that so much to ask?

Only a very small handful.
Most nowadays aren't capable of scaring me, only startling me.

There's a difference between horror games and jump-scare games.

>>
>>336990672

I know this is probably some kind of weird contrarian bait attempt or whatever, but yeah. You just listed the order those games take place, chronologically in the series timeline.

While some of these games provide enough story background at their start, or mission briefings, the series is notoriously convoluted in its world details and character backgrounds.

So while some of them could serve as nice starting points for anyone with a passing interest in the series, and wanting to check it out...

...to fully understand appreciate how each installment was developed, based on previous ones, to see the surprises and reveals delivered as they were written, see how technology and game design progressed, etc etc. means playing them as closely to the order in which they were made and released. It's pretty simple and proper when you think about it. The idea that you'd get some kind of greater narrative cohesion or appreciation playing them in timeline order is way off.

Yes.

That game was the DayZ mod.

That first hour or so I played was by far the scariest game play experience I had in my entire life. REmake, Silent Hill 2, FEAR, STALKER, nothing hit as hard as those first few goes at DayZ for me.
