Too bad, since I want to get this game. Never got EU4 or their other ones. Couldn't get interested due to how bland it seemed to just stare at a map that changes colors while you click through menus. But this games seems like a good mix of keeping the complexity while being more visually interesting and less fully menu-based.
I hope it'll be fun, as my only other hope on the horizon for a fun space 4X looks like Endless Space 2, and ES1 was just decent so my hopes aren't soaring too high.

Endless Space is a very simplist, sterile game imo, even by space strategy standards.
There are similarities, but this will be more complex than what you are used to. The vurve in to the more difficult stuff should be pretty easy on you though.

For Crusader Kings II there were entire other games that you could mod in, for instance: The Game of Thrones mod. The GOT mod added all of the GOT world with multiple start dates, dragons and a whole host of other stuff.
The DLC's also go on special and can be bought cheaply after enough time has passed. You come off as entitled, you seem to want everything for free. For those of us that can afford it, enjoy the game and want more content you should understand that people are allowed to like things that you don't like. It's part of being an adult.. When people talk about modders getting paid we are specifically mentioning content like Counter strike or Team Fortress, which started out as mods.
For me, I like the idea that if someone wants to get a game and use it to make an entirely different game that you could sink hours and hours into enjoying they should be able to afford to do it.
I don't like the steam integration but I like the idea of Paradox paying the modders and then releasing it as DLC.

A 4x is something like Civilization; it's usually turn based (though there are exceptions like Sins of a Solar Empire), and the focus is to wipe all the other factions off the map without having to worry about things like war justification, infamy, or rebellions. I'm unsure about what I'm going to do with my firs t playthrough, I kind of want to do fast breeders who allow migration access and migrate to other empires so that they can take them over. I really like the industrious trait.
Fighting in the game looks really cool and while border expansion is important at the start, vassalizing inferior empires and then integrating them can net you a significant amount of border very fast :/

I like the uplifting mechanics, you can infiltrate primitive species governments and elevate them to the space age into your empire or you can technologically uplift them into a vassal. It's cool if you find a species that have 100% habitability on planets that you only have 20% or habitability for - it means that you can build up vertically much easier when the mad rush for land has ended.
