Why? it's a 16nm. They can cut a shit ton of those from a 300mm wafer. the mortality rate of a die is quite low already that they just disable a few stream cores to make 1070s. Also Nvidia is known to declare artificial shortages at launch

Playing games on ultra in these latest ports isn't worthy anymore due terrible optimization and resource hogs like God Rays and Shadows fucking your performance up for no apparent quality improvement.

Go check the latest Low/Medium/High/Ultra comparisons on youtube and see if there's huge differences between Medium and Ultra settings. Dark Souls 3 is one of the latest offenders in this department.

I really doubt it. AMD's Polaris 10 seems like it's really doing well performance per watt and overclocking on that is going to be INSANE

Not to mention, AMD has asynchronous compute resulting in their $250 cards beating $600 cards in DX12 games (the majority of AAAs coming out later half of 2016)

I wouldn't be surprised if AMD's $300 card beats Nvidia's $699 "founder edition" card.

This is a Hitman benchmark. The 290X (a card released in 2013 that you can get for $250) is beating the 980 and that's on an incredibly flawed architecture.

Polaris has already BTFO'd Nvidia's 900 series when it comes to performance and wattage.

Even if it performs slightly below the 1000 series, they're targeting the $250-329MSRP market for Polaris 10

I'm looking forward to moving from my 780 and old ivybridge i5 over to a completely new build in a much smaller case.

Also by waiting for the aftermarket boards you get to skip over all the teething problems and complete fuck ups in the original design.

AMD doesn't incorporate anything that tanks the competition's performance. Their opendev suite is what it says, OPEN. Anyone can use it and it benefits everyone.

It's closed source and they forced many of my friends to utilize obscene amounts of tessellation in their games to artificially gimp AMD's hardware, except AMD was smart with Crimson and set tessellation to "AMD optimized" and allowed users to crank it down even further (with no visual loss)

If you have any sense at all, do not buy a previous gen Nvidia card and do not keep a previous gen Nvidia card. If you do buy a Nvidia card at all, get in when it releases, get out when it's about to become obsolete.
