I've finished nev2 recently before playing motb and god it's abyssmal. It is a bit dragged on but not much problem here. What's bad is an abundance of remaining bugs and that feeling of unpolished game overall (fixable by mods to some degree, ui in particular). At least I can get all references in motb.

I did a solo nightmare arcane warrior run in DA:O once and now every time I replay it with a different class and actually using a party, it just feels silly and pointless

Hey, Ammon Jerro was a good character. Not a typical power hungry evil villain. He had a real goal, real motivations, and was in general pretty fucking competent and pragmatic.
Another enjoyable thing about the whole storyline is the subtle tone of sarcasm and subversion around the otherwise incredibly cliche story. It's like the (or one of the) writers was actually competent but got ordered to rush out a script based on plot points by the producers 12 year old autistic son, but decided to have some fun with it.

My favorite rpg is PS:T but I really enjoyed DA:O. It's a very different rpg, to the point where I don't even think you can compare those ADnD based games to it.
It's not better than KOTOR, but I think it's one of Biowares better games. I feel like it's getting shit on now just because the other 2 games were trash.

I honestly recommend "Live Forever" the most for NWN2. it has its flaws but it's fun to start with since the narrative is good and it focuses on low level characters. some fights at the end are really unbalanced and hard though.

All the characters are either stereotypical to the absolute extreme (cleptomaniac thief, hippie flower child elf, violent scottish dwarf, insufferable do-gooder paladin) or an elaborate subversion (jerro). And there are so many plot points that revel in cliches to an extent where they become ridiculous and it feels like there was an awareness behind it all rather than complete cluelessness.
I still don't much like it though. Anyway MotB was fantastic in the story department but combat was pretty bad.

I don't think it's anything like Skyrim, but it did try to be much more like the console version of DAO instead of DA2. The PC version of DAO is more like the old infinity engine games during combat while the exploration is more like Mass Effect.

There's also Serpent in the Staglands. And Hard West, which would also classify as an rpg, I suppose. Probably the only game with roleplay elements where picking evil options actually felt satisfying and sensible as opposed to a jarring contrast when compared to everyone else.

The party members are stereotypical, but there's also repercussions for their behavior (Some more than others, due to cut content) and you can make them change. To me, at least, it felt like it was deliberate and I think a lot of people missed the point of them.
Khelgar's a dorf who wants to fight, but that caused a rift between him and his family and pretty much any sane person. Neeshka can't help herself due to her demonic heritage, which can be manipulated by one of the bad guys. Bishop's nihilism ends up getting him killed and consigned to the Wall. And so on.

You realize that only applies, literally to neverwinter nights series, icewind dale 2, and temple of elemental evil?
All the infinity engine games deal with stats in a completely different manner. For example, if you're a fighter, going from 16 to 17 str grants a + to attack rolls. So odd numbers have use.
