The best part of Black Flag is everything but the assassin/templar parts.
They'll only make another good one of they observe what made AC4 so great, which was the fact that it was a deviation. They clearly don't care about making multi-game story arcs like they did with the original few AC games, so their target should be altering the gameplay itself.
I think setting a game completely in a modern setting would be interesting. You can't tell me that the Assassin v. Templar formula couldn't be applied well that way. You could be doing Jason Bourne shit.

Black Flag is actually overrated.
Aside from muh atmosphere, the core AC gameplay loop is still there and is still terrible.
The modern story stuff and modern """gameplay""" sections are as bad as ever.
The sailing and ship combat get praised to high heaven, but both become a chore a few hours in and whoops you're doing that over and over for dozens of more hours.

i legit uinstalled AC1 after 10 hours. got about halfway through the game. parkour movements were slow as shit. there was hardly any stealth. combat felt like it came from 1995.
but i did get the bundle a year. so i have 2, 3, and revelations still in my steam library. is it worth it to continue the series? did they change the combat? clunky as shit. holding guard and waiting to counter is not combat. and i really do want good stealth.

A lot of 2's acclaim came from how it streamlined the gameplay and made it more enjoyable, so you will definitely want to try that. Also, Venice was a really nice setting.
3 has an overlong story and a stupid fucking protagonist, and the cities are boring as hell.
Revelations takes after 2 in gameplay and plot. I thought the setting in Constantinople was really nice and unique but the game gets flak for the story being kind of retarded. I liked it though.

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed this entry more than its prequels, but at the same time it bothers me how they moved away from the stealth/assassination formula. Since AC 2, stealth approach became a second though, and engaiging in combat is actually easier and more safe. Also, in 4 there are no big cities, just towns with small buildings and some villas.
I really, really, really want to love this game. The sense of exploration, the atmosphere of the high seas, the gorgeous towns and environmental design, and the ship combat are all super appealing. Plus, I fucking love collectathons.
But I can't. I just fucking can't.

Then he gets beat down by Jack, and we have to play as Evie for the rest of it - which wasn't completely terrible, as she's turned down her douche knob a couple of notches. Oh, and who Jack is gets spoiled early on, and it's retarded.Overall, Jack the Ripper was a disappointment.
