After that is trash.
End game is grinding dungeons that have awkward mechanics. There is one dungeon that is pretty neat the first time, but most are absurdly boring and take a very long time.
The worst bit is that the gear isn't even better than leveling gear, so it's grinding long boring dungeons for cosmetic gear.
So, yeah, probably worth grabbing just to level a charactor to max. After that you're done.
Lacks content, end-game, and balance.
$50 expansion lasted me a week before finishing everything except collections.

Ignoring the married couple above me, I'd advise not to get into it. It's free, so you can try, but personally I found it too tedious and boring. Skills are weapon-specific, which seems fun at first, but gets old real quick and quite boring too.. I do have friends who say you'll enjoy the game later on, but it's all personal opinion. Like I said, personally, I'd advice against it.
Grinding to max level the first time was a lot of fun. They put more effort into that than the end-game content and it really shows. It's worth a try if you can get for around $10.

The leveling experience was pretty fun, at least back when I played it. That will waste quite a bit of your time.
Endgame and pvp is shit so if you're looking for a longterm game this is not for the MMO you're looking for.
The only thing I can say that gw2 did well was the leveling system. As another anon said, they put more effort into the leveling experience than they did for any kind of 'endgame' content. Also the neato feature of downscaling, so low level content still had some small meaning even at max level. I wish more rpg's had something like that.

The leveling system is horrible and doesn't develop well with the players. You earn your skills early on and the 50 level after is nothing but fluff to make the journey look long. Instead of a zone quest line, you get a shopping list of activities you do in each area.
Also the dynamic events aren't really spectacular when you're doing over and over again.
You'll probably get your 20 bucks out of it in game time.
That said, it's still pretty mediocre.

I play it since beta and watch in horror with all the stupid update that fuck up the game. The release an expansive DLC and they aren't bothering with finishing the new legendary weapons that they advertise with the expansion, but hey, they shit out more cash shop weapon and costume that looks better than legendary and they have 70 people working in another expansion.
I bought HoT but quit before the raid was released.
Was the raid actually fun? I never cared for raid style content, but every other aspect of HoT disappointed me, other than the visuals.
