Her alt fire is crippling against reindharts/winstons shields as it is completely unblockable. Her standard fire increases in damage the longer it is used on ANY enemy (only slightly decreasing if the beam disconnects momentarily) and if held long enough can deal up to fucking 120 DPS. You can get to 120, kill one enemy, target the next and continue dealing 120 DPS. Also if youre Symmetra and youre fighting without at least 1 turret assisting your damage, youre doing it wrong.

Thoughtful and effective turret placement and maintenance requires skill. They are so easy to destroy and play around. Just because it's not brute force, direct combat, doesnt mean that it's any less skillful. Bastion is a character that requires no skill. Transform into turret, hold down left click and win. In fact, playing Symmetra well requires more skill, thought and strategy than any other character in this game.

Perhaps a bit underrated but far from good.
The turrets, like her primary shot, are mostly only good for enclosed spaces and while there are quite a few on each map, those tend to be the 'alternative' routes which can arguable be played around.
She sets up a 'base', shoots out from it luring scrubs in, gets her ult and plants it there for further fortification.
If that gets shut down early it's a bit of a scramble for her to start up again.

Symmetra is supposed to stay close to her sentry nests; your alt fire is slow, but when fully charged it is large and completely denies that line area and does great damage. When I play Symmetra is spam the alt shot all day as more of a deterrent than a killing move.
The primary fire is also great at close range. As long as your enemy is in range, the gun autotracks so that you can focus completely on dancing around them like a fucking faggot. If you are playing her correctly, they are also in range of some of your turrets, making it even more frustrating for them.
Symmetra is stealth OP at her niche. I never use her on Offense, but on defense she's my instant go-to.

The Teleporter is crazy good. Tuck it away somewhere safe just around the corner and you effectively cut off 10-20 seconds of travel time for the next six people where they would othewise come from the spawn and run across the map. Think of it as a long term Resurrect that charges super quick and can effectively be active the whole game (assuming your team isn't shit and keeps dying).
And both her M1 and M2 are powerful as fuck. Hug the enemy, point in their general direction and jump around like a spaz as their health drains super fast from your laser. I've seen more Symmetra POTGs where she takes down several people with her M1 more than she has with her turret array.
Charge the M2 all the way up and it'll eat a chunk out of anyone who gets in its way. The slow speed makes it a looming deterrent that will have snipers and defenders and Bastions perched up somewhere move out of the way until it passes.

Do not expect kills with the turrets. Higher skill players use them as info on where enemies are going. Your goal is STAY ALIVE and get ult charge from people going into sentries and alt click spam (it ignores shields, Reinhardt is free charge). A teleporter means your team can rush point, force enemy ults, die, then come back with your own ults. Your utility is not measured in the numbers on the scoreboard but your ability to say "someone came through my trap be aware" and having teles constantly.

I can attest to this about Target bathrooms. Had to clean them once an hour and for mens it was as simple as sweeping the odd paper here in there, in and out. For the women's restroom as a man I had to waiu until all bitches left, then I had to do a throughout sweep and even flush the fucking toilets as well as clean seemingly guaranteed spills.
I thought at first womens restrooms were going to be a bit cleaner, nope, women are the real pigs.

Her shields hardly last because they stop all damage. You can throw it on someone who has been jumped, or is trying to build ult by walking in/out of a chokepoint and help them out unscathed. You can see someone get hooked/pinned and block all the follow up damage.
Then blocking yuge damage like that lets you melt someone in a second with her damage amp. I'm talking killing the beefy guys in less than 1.6 seconds with m1 or spamming m2 into a chokepoint and getting eliminations from each shot.
Then, her ult synergies so well with every other ult ontop of being an incredible counter engage. Winston ults? Bastion ults? Even Lucio ults? Just pin the team in one spot and #WasteTheirTime2016

I think she is the worst hero outside of her ult. Her gun is shit, her shield is kind of ok but you would rather pic Russian punk girl and her turrets are pure no damage shit even when all 3 deployed, and they also die to a cat's fart.
Her ultimate is extremely good, but it feels like because blizzard fucked up and gave only 2 real solutions to speed up your team as a whole.
