Anon, you need to get some perspective. Spore is still a decent game. It runs, has content and does some stuff competently enough to justify playing it. It's a gutted shell of what it could have been, but it's still a game that plays and can be enjoyed. Even with half of it's ideas cut out, it's still got quite a few good ideas remaining.

The original plot that was planned in the first game actually sounded fucking awesome, and I'll never understand why they completely dropped the significance of the Mass Effect in a series that had that as the fucking title.

Then when they still managed to get a fanbase who were getting ready to be loyal, they blew their load and started making dlc left and right. I honestly blame the success of payday 2 for that shit, and I think it's a damn shame since the game had potential.

I spent some time on the forums around the time the game was released and some of the devs were pretty active on it,dunno if they still post but they seemed like genuinely cool people who really wanted to make a good game....I think part of the problem was the fact that THQ died and 2K bought the IP for something like 11 million dollars so I imagine a bunch of the shitty dlc practices had something to do with them wanting to make their money back off of it.

It depends on what you want by the term "awful". Alot of games can be awful for entirely different reasons. Sonic '06 is awful in how broken the gameplay is. Metroid Other M is awful for alot of reasons but most of all the abhorrent story that pukes on everything that makes Metroid good, Big Rigs is barely even a game and is awful, some games inspired awful trends like Call of Duty, some games have obnoxious fanbases, etc.
