I played 2 for like 2 hours and just couldn't get into it. Changing up controls, jumping (first death), sliding down ladders (second death), for no fucking reason. Every room was a perfidious ambush. Picked the cleric to change things up and couldn't even one hand my starting weapon with starting stats. Running animation feels awkward with a delay followed by a burst coming from 1. Rolling timing is all sorts of fucked, constantly getting hit where I rolled from mid-roll.

The only redeeming moment I had was when the pursuer dropped down during that one part but of course you couldn't even fuck around with him because there's like 5 cunts that aggro once you get up there.

2's themes and characters really grew on me too once i had a little time to digest the game.

Dark Souls 2 had a lot of problems. Endless ganks, later levels were hallways, soul memory, no full red eye orb, lack of atmosphere, bear seek seek lest, the concept of cycles that shit on DS 1's sense of finality, endless knights.

Dark Souls 3 has completely different problems by having no poise, endless mimics, far too much pandering to the original, too linear, too few areas, lack of decent looking gear until lategame, no pvp arena, invading into ganks, bloodborne combat speed which made long swords top tier and areas that didn't feel distinct from the previous games.

The many flaws of the third game don't excuse the flaws of the second it just means From doesn't know what they're doing.

Nah it's shit. I had a batman build the first time around and had a good time but when I tried to actually play with weapons it felt like shit. The bosses were boring, the enemies were boring, the locales were boring (except for the tomb area), everything was just less than mediocre without my batman shit.

I big change in art direction. I much prefer the old design with the lush trees but I suppose they decided the vibrancy clashed with the story and atmosphere a bit.
I also think the water looked better in the before. Realistic water is really tricky to get right. Even when it looks good and it's never quite convincing. Much better for water to lean towards a more artistic appearance than a realistic one.

Used the vanquisher's seal to beat the shit out of everything

Though at the beginning I was using +10 caestus and items like firebombs, lightning bombs, magic urns etc. Used the hard leather set up until I got my batman shit. It was a ton of fun my man.

Not quite. High VIG obviously helps a lot but healing in DaS 2 is a lot slower. Taking a sippy takes fucking forever and Lifegems heal you slowly.

High VIG in DaS 3 combines with quick sippy and fast health regen makes it easy.

Boss attacks are mostly capped to a % of your max health in Dark Souls 2. Running low max health in Dark Souls 1 is also quite effective because of this. You'd get better results with no armor though, as it does nothing to reduce the damage of late-game and DLC bosses but hinders your roll distance.

Shibuya was in charge for most of the development. He never worked on vidya before, his qualifications being directing some kind of lighting engine. He had a retarded dev method which entailed working on everything at once, meaning all the locales, the UI, the weapons, etc. When he was late and had nothing complete to show for his efforts, From shitcanned him and put veteran director Tanimura on it, where he replaced the giants' faces with anuses because this isn't WoW (pic related) and cobbled everything together best he could to ship a workable game before it became another Duke Nukem Forever. He was in charge for the whole development of the expansions, which really shows.

It had other problems too, the PvP was almost unplayable(Significantly worse then dks3) because of the insane phantom hits(Happened more often and worse than dks or dks3) and hackers everywhere. Also soul memory was a problem and it had a couple other fairly major flaws, mostly revolving around balance.

That being said, it did have some nice stuff that didn't make it to dks3, like soul vessels, bonfire aesthetics(should just respawn boss though and make it give less souls(to stop soul farming and your NG+'s getting fucked)) and power stancing.(though some combo's were complete cancer like warped blade and washing pole)

The jump controls change did have a reason: with the old controls if you were running and then tried to roll you would get a jump. You could argue this was actually a good thing since it forced you to pay more attention when trying to run past enemies, but it wasn't without reason.

The ladder change kinda makes sense too since it lets you drop down faster (like if you started climbing and an enemy snuck up on you).

I'm kinda annoyed that this was removed from 3. I hate pressing the stick to jump, and thus the first thing I did was changing it back to circle, but that makes it impossible to instantly roll when running.

I always liked Dark Souls 2. Not more than the other souls games but I still liked it. Dark Souls 3's PvP has brought things into perspective for me though.
