Because it removes layers of the game. Instead of having to manage your aggression in a fight, manage both your positioning and your enemies' positioning in relation to item pickups, and exercise your skill in ducking and weaving through obstacles and enemies to get to pickups, you just kill what's in front of you and you'll be kept stocked. It's very monotonous and shallow.

Classic Doom can't be replaced. These days it's less a game and more a platform. So many WADs and mods, you could (perhaps literally) play them until the end of your life

NuDoom is just another take on the formula and setting. See it as a AAA, paid WAD if you must. It's there if you want to see these familiar monsters and weapons inside a different overall experience. Which was basically what Doom 3 was, as well

I feel better now.
I knew it wasn't that much slower than the originals, but I forgot just not-speedy they were.
Really it's just as much the feel in those as the actual speed-- you get to top speed immediately and IIRC you have a bit of momentum when you let off the run key.

What concerns me in the new one is how hard it is to read a scene, but then a lot of the time in the originals you'd have grey and brown blobs (zombies and imps) in a grey-brown environment. We'll see when we have non-potato footage.

I'm not going to say I'm hyped because I'm to cynical now a days to expect anything out of vidya but from what I've seen of the single-player it looks pretty good.

The only thing that put me off was the execution moves that slowed down the game and make the same 6 second animation over and over, but the devs said that you can remove that shit in the options so I find literally nothing wrong with the game for now apart from

I like Doom 1 and 2 but I honestly hated the maze like nature of the maps. You can still make maps that focuses on exploration and secrets without making the map a confusing maze.

It was also violent and had heavy metal blaring in the background, which basically secured its popularity amongst teens and young adults back in the day. The 90s were the decade of grunge and MTV, and Doom was like a technology-pushing amalgamation of that aesthetic. Today being gory means nothing, it's do overdone - Classic Doom even looks tame compared to most new games

Doom is kinda like Mortal Kombat, it was a cultural event as much as it was a game. I happen to believe Doom has a lot more to it gameplay-wise than MK, but I'm not deluded enough to believe Doom's success wasn't due to it being "violent and realistic" and "you're killing monsters but it's like you're seeing what your guy is seeing!"

There is the question though, how do we know there isn't a sprint function in single-player (just like how the "look I can hold every weapon in my teeth" thing is in single-player but not standard multiplayer)? How do we know they're not going to add that?
