I was talking with a friend about this just recently while he was finishing the game. If anything it seems selfish, because if they succeed they get to live a happy life but those that were left behind in the other timeline are still fucked.

We didn't get to play through a whole fragment, but we did get to see a decent amount of scenes. We did get to watch Uchi play through a fragment though. It couldn't have been longer than maybe half an hour-ish? That said, Uchi knew what he was doin', so it doesn't really say much for the game's length, ha. Granted, based on what was happening, I want to say that it was probably one of the earlier Fragments, so other ones might take longer. For all I know, the X Door might lead to some Q Room-tier Puzzle Olympics nonsense, so I'm guessing that'd pad out a decent chunk of time, ha.
As for the gun, YES. There's a scene where Zero introduces the dilemma, thoroughly explaining the risks and rewards of either outcome, then you get to watch everyone bicker back and forth and give their opinions on it. After everyone's said their piece, it shifts to you, and a 10 second timer starts ticking down in real time. You either pull the trigger, or wait until the timer hits 0 and let someone die. Failing to choose results in abstaining from pulling the trigger, so you can't artificially extend the time you have to make your decision. Given that the returning cast is here to stop an epidemic and he's out to thwart their plans, I expect him to be evil.
