Flanderisation is when one trait gets taken from a character and is made into the characters entire personality, like Chie and her meat or Kanji and his gay. It's what happened to the characters in the P4 spin-offs, except for Yukiko because she had no personality to flanderise. Adding gimmicks to a character does not make for a better character, which is why I don't like Yukiko as is, even if the fact that she now has something is better than before, when she had nothing.

Yukiko is a bad character before because she has absolutely nothing interesting going on. Her strughle of not wanting to run the inn just makes her seem like a whiny bitch, it was coear from the start that she was treated well there and rather than supporting her dumb fantasies, the player has to sit through ten S. Links of her whining about having a good life handed to her on a sliver platter. She's no fun, she's certainly not stern but the only times when she actually contributes something to the conversation, it's just her dumb laugh that wasn't ever endearing in the least.
I don't like the Yukiko that likes horror movies either, but at least that Yukiko has something even remotely noteworthy about her personality, which is probably why it's what most Yukikofags latch onto rather than any part of her personality which was showcased in vanilla P4. A good character would have been interesting for more than a gimmick like that, but Yukiko is not, and never was, a good character.

Yukiko did not exist in a gilded cage. She was barely restricted, she was just expected to take over the business, she had that problem as much as Naoki Konishi did, that is to say, not very much.
I don't dislike her because her situation isn't severe, it could have been interesting, but she wasted it by being such a bland character. It was immediately clear that she actually wanted to stay, she just cooked up drama for nothing.
