Literally won't need another videogame for months when this drops
>>
>months
you really think you'll be done with it in your lifetime?

or are you dying?
>>
doesn't matter. it's gonna be copy pasta planets like oblivion dungeons

b-but
>muh procedural generation

don't kid yourself, boyo.
>>
In the same context of how you need 5 billion years to get all the borderlands weapons or 4 million years to get all the diablo 2 items. even if things are procedurally generated, there is a point when gameplay starts to become similar enough to what was done previously to warrant moving on to something else.
>>
>>336806861
we couldn't finish this game if the entire earth played it for 5 billion years
>>
procedural generation means the world's won't be exactly the same, sure, but after a month tops they'll become predictable
>>
Yeah, but consider that you're going to see absolutely everything it has to offer within a couple of hours at most.
>>
>>336806951
We've seen like 50 planets, it looks diversified enough, and they can get away with repetition as long as similars planets are far away from each other
>>
Just like how Skyrim has an infinite number of quests right?
>>
What do you even do is NMS?

Can I be a trader like in EVE/Elite?
>>
>>336807259
>it looks diversified enough
It's the same rock in a different color.
>>
>>336806730

And different animals, flora, and environment on it. You're right though, the colors are differents.

Is that how long you'll be waiting for another PS4 game?

Am I missing something? This game looks really boring.

>>
>>336807475
There are no items though, right?
You can only upgrade your suit so that you can go on cold and hot planets.
Ships can't be upgraded, you need to buy a new shit.

It's literally just like doing contracts in ED but with less shit, if you can even imagine that.
You do a generated mission, get credits, buy upgrade, repeat.

Game is going to make a shit ton of cash and be panned by everyone.
>>
>>336807610
Just like you can climb that mountain right?
>>
>>336807259
It doesn't really look that diverse because the base concept is still so many variations of trees, grass, etc. Those things are fine to reoccur, but on every planet?

Also, if there was some interesting things to do on the planets it would be different. Has there been any gameplay that looked good? I haven't looked at shit in awhile, but when they showed off "combat" it looked about as smooth as Fallout 3 without VATS, which is fucking embarrassing.
>>
>>336807596
Anon the game honestly doesn't look that amazing, I think it's alright but it's not going to amaze me from what I saw, do you really have to lie to get your point across?
>>
>>336807351
Yes you can buy low in one system, travel to another and sell high if that's what you want to do and you can progress the entire game this way.
>>
>>336806730
If a developer themself can't even fully explore a game that they made that's probably a really bad thing rather than a sign of depth.
>>

>>
>>336807725

Nah there is.
>>
>>336807752
The planets are all the same shit in a different color. If it doesn't amaze you either, why go through the trouble of trying to convince me that this game is anything other than repetitive drivel?
>>
>>336807668
they cut out two hundred varieties of palm trees. five hundred textures for sand and had to skip out on a few pixels of snow. I wonder what there would be to skip out on? Not saying whether or not it'll be a good game or not but it seems that it's rather bare-bones outside of the random gen; it's an exploration sim, so I wonder what extra content would need to be cut anyway.

Not gonna happen, they've specifically siad they're aiming for planets like you see in the first twenty minutes of Star Wars. Only wilderness and a few buildings, doubt there's more than 3-4 put together.

Probably also because procedurally generating cities is a whole other load of work in itself so they had to choose at some point.

So >>336808695 are all the same environments with different colors? Hmm need your eyes checked?
>>336809145
The way the game is made you have to actually play it to see more than 1. It'll most likely take at least an hour to even leave the first planet let alone have enough fuel to reach more than 1 or 2 more.
>>336809192
Tears of joy on release day. Can't wait, shit posting retard.
>>
>>336809287
Okay so lets work with that. Since there's actually nothing to do on a planet but look at things (since shooting things does literally nothing after you leave), how long are you going to spend on each planet doing nothing but looking? I estimate 5 minutes before people get bored of doing nothing.
So 40 minutes will be less than 5 hours to see everything unique the game has to offer

Only bad when Nintendo does it. Atleast they don't make rehashing a game mechanic.
>>
>>336809540
Why do people constantly bring up Molyneux.

I mean you can call the game a shitty idea, but the devs have been pretty honest about what you can or can't do on most subjects besides multiplayer, but even then they said it was a minor part of the game anyway and that the game was definitely not a MMO, so you can't say they're building up false expectations.

What did they promise, exactly?
>>
>>336809369
You've got it reversed, there was way more positivity about this game back when Sony fanboys thought it was PS4 exclusive.
>>
Oh boy! I can't wait to explore
>Ice planet with mountains
>Ice planet with caves

>>
>>336809820
>What did they promise, exactly?
FIVE GORILLION YEARS TO FULLY EXPLORE
>>
Couple things they could've done to make the game interesting:
> make it fps EVE
>random crisis events: system failure causing crash landing, are stuck on planet until you can repair; unusual cosmic pull to comets and shit
> generally make it feel like a big spooky sci-fi film
>>
So besides "le exploration", what the fuck do you even do in this game?
>>
>>336809678
>picture posted is all there is to offer for variation

Never said farming. I said to play it. You're going to want to explore, maybe find some alien buildings, weird creatures, hey look there's a cave I wonder what's in that? You don't "win" the game by rushing anywhere. You enjoy it for what it is.

This. Procedural generation games always get hyped to hell and back with marketing slogans like "HUGE WORLD, INFINITE CONTENT, ENDLESS CUSTOMIZATION", when in practice there won't be that much different stuff to do and experience.

Not saying that No Man's Sky will be another flop like Starbound, but people are just setting themselves up for disappointment when they realize that the marketing videos already showcased 99% that the game has to offer.
>>
Did the devs ever apologise for lying about there being multiplayer?

Yeah but who cares, it's pretty clear it's just there to give people a goal, something to look forward to, sure it'll probably be all over the internet a few days after release but I don't really mind to begin with, I just want to fly in space and land on some planet.
>>
>>336806951
exactly this.

50 billion planets, cause one has slightly differently coloured palettes from one another with the same 50 or so creature models over and over.

it's like when blizzard tried to tell us that diablo 3 would have billions of viable builds which turned out to be utter bullshit. d3 is at least better now though.

no man's sky just looks like a fucking snooze fest with its only actual selling point being numbers. Minecraft could do the same, but you'll still only encounter the same bullshit every single world you generate, just in a different place.

It's not a meme. It's the time it takes to push the buttons required to jump from planet to planet, multiplied by the number of planets that exist in the game. It's called math.

I think the dev said that the ship has a slower movement speed in case you run out of fuel, so you're always able to get somewhere, but if you flew out really far and ran out it'll take you quite some time to get back.
>>
>>336812143
No, you can mine fuel off asteroids

And you only need fuel to go faster or wrap between solar systems, flying around "normally" doesn't consume anything.

>I think you can start a war with factions so yes.
You think? That's not helping at all. Also, where is this faction based? On a different planet or the same planet? Why even make different planets if you never encounter creatures from planet X on planet Y? Shit just sounds so absurd it baffles me how Sony ever gave green light for this game.
>>
>>336807608
right. and those quests are all shit. the point is that nobody gives a fuck how many years it'll take to explore if that exploration is boring as fuck for various reasons, whether it be boring gameplay or "variation" that amounts to some color swaps or models/environments that don't look all that different.
>>
>>336812574
>I thought it was just basically Space Engine, why is there fuel and shit? And why don't they make a game with actual stuff to do like X?
Space Engine is not a game, it is a virtual planetarium
>Make a game with stuff to do
That's what this is. It's a colorful sci-fi space engine, with survival elements, trading, crafting, fighting, full planetary flora and fauna.
>>
>>336811871
You know what's unnecessary? Padding a game with hours of grindan just to say it'll take you billions of years to 'fully explore'. Yeah, any game will take forever to finish if you put humongous time walls everywhere.
>>

Marketing hype, retards will preorder it, play it for a few hours (thus voiding the refunds policy on PC), get bored and be stuck with having paid full price for an early access unfinished game.

Procedural generation will always be quantity over quality.

Enjoy your quantity.
>>
>>336806730
It's not going to hold anyone's attention for longer than 5 months.

I still haven't seen anything interesting to fucking do in the game.

None of your actions have a permanent effect on the world, on other players, or even yourself when you return to an old planet.

It's fucking stupid, everything resets when you leave. At this point you might as well play minesweeper and press New Game each time you click a tile.

There is a faction system where if you help out one faction it will remember and you can get wingmen to help you later. The faction you attack remember and will continue to attack you later on. Right now they've mentioned 7 factions of NPC's.

Why does it matter? Most developers love to show off the game they put all their trouble in on E3. Kojima fucked his entire game by hyping his game by showing almost all cutscene in 5 minute trailers. This game is doing the total opposite, by showing NOTHING at all.
