Is this the end of E3?
http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sokro8

>Do any of you know that EA, Disney, Activision and Wargaming have dropped out of this year's show?
>They all used to book massive floor space, especially EA. Now they're all going to be no-shows.
>EA is actually holding their own show that will be a paid event, open to the public, and will compete directly with E3.

>Companies no longer see investing in E3 as a viable use of revenue. There's a growing feeling that they need to take things directly to the consumer, and not hide them behind the press at a trade event.
>The companies are fed up with the constant negativity from gamers, and from the press. They're also fed up with the gaming press in general. (If you only knew how much the big companies hate the gaming press.)
>Another thing that's turning off exhibitors at E3 are the constant leaks, which are almost impossible to control.
>>
>>336799462
>open to the public
This is what E3 should become again. An even for the customers. Give a day or two for pros but at cores it should have been like a giant fun fair for gamers.
>>
> There's a growing feeling that they need to take things directly to the consumer, and not hide them behind the press at a trade event.
As always rockstar was the first to set the trend
>>
>>336799462
i would have thought they were tired of having to produce cringe-inducing stage speeches with fake gameplay and empty promises.
>>
>>336799462
>Disney, Activision and Wargaming

The only time I see Disney is when they are shilling skylanders on Nintendo's direct. We all know what happened to Nintendo so that's not surprising they dropped out.

>Activision
What do they make again? CoD? Seeing as people are shitting on infinite warfare then I'm not surprised

>Wargaming
Literally WHO?

In total no its not dead. Get fucked.
>>
>>336799617
This, E3 hasn't been as enjoyable since they closed it for the public.
>>
>>336800659
It's okay bro, Sony will save #E32016!
>>
>>336801558

Yeah Sony will reveal even more games that aren't coming out any time soon to add to the growing collection.
>>
>>336801678

*Also on PC
>>
So is it just Bethesda, MS, Sony, and Squeenix now?

and for the 3rd time in a row, neo-nintendo fans defend nintendos absence at E3.
Everytime.
>>
>>336799462
Internet killed E3, we know rumors months ahead of its time, every surprise gets leaked one way or another and because of that it's pointless.

I heard that companies were evaluating making something akin to a nintendo direct. which still wouldn't fix the problem. Leakers are pretty much disguised marketers nowadays
>>
>>336801678
This year is going to be VR. Get ready for little actually new games, it's going to showcase all the VR games from last year.
>>
>>336802234
I disagree. 5 years ago E3 was still big and internet wasn't especially more of a thing than now.

>EA, Disney, Activision and Wargaming have dropped out of this year's show?
>Now they're all going to be no-shows

Good. Now actually good games with get more coverage they would never have otherwise without E3.
EA/Activision stuff is advertised years round, they don't need to kill the coverage of much smaller games and companies for their superfluous normalfag shit
This is genuinely a good thing for everyone.

>The companies are fed up with the constant negativity from gamers, and from the press. They're also fed up with the gaming press in general.
And it's seemingly not 'bad' enough for them to stop their shit.
>>
>>336800357

This.

For every fucking game they have to announce, they have to come up with shit like this every fucking E3. And god forbid if their performance and games announced don't live up to the hype.

I say fuck it, if they've got a game to announce, then just say it or if they feel as if the game needs more time before it's announced, then go right fucking ahead. They don't have to be forced to announce all the fucking games they have or every console every time at E3.
>>
>>336802927
>Bigger

I hope you mean a bigger of an embarrassment because that's all we've gotten for the past few years.
>>
>>336800659
You're right that Disney was never that big of a deal at E3, but they don't own Skylanders. In fact, it's owned by one of the other companies in your post.

EA is holding their convention literally across the street from E3. I think their normal E3 space has been undergoing some construction work lately which may have been the reason they changed the location in the first place.

E3 as a whole is too big of a public even to just trash entirely. Though I can see it getting replaced by another convention in the near future because the show floor at E3 costs literally millions and isn't worth it.

Might see it undergo a transition like what happened with gamescom, which probably would end up being open to the public.
>>
>>336799462
great news
>>
Hopefully they will focus on more indie games then.
>>
>>336806290
Can somebody please answer me if Sony and Square Enix are gonna have conferences?
>>
>>336801132
E3 was never open to the public. It was always intended as a way for publishers to shill their games to retailers to sell copies to stores and game tabloids in order to drum up hype. It was just always too easy to sneak into E3 because no one was checking in its early years. It wasn't until streaming video of the event that they started cracking down on that and eventually made it even harder to get in for the average guy off the street.
>>
>>336806864
>>336806290
Sony is apparently unknown at this point, but it's unlikely that they would just pass it up when microsoft is confirmed to have a conference.
It doesn't look like Square has a press conference, but FFXV, FFVII and KH3 are all confirmed (probably, I'm getting this info from IGN) to be there, likely during the Microsoft and/or Sony conferences.

Sony and SE had great showings last year, and Microsoft was good enough to be adequate. Nintendo was the only ones who shit the bed, with EA literally memeing through the whole thing.
>>
>>336799462
Good riddance E3 is a relic of the past. The only highlights of E3 are awkward stage presentations and bullvideos-later-to-be -downgraded every year. Nintendo's Treehouse E3 segments are enjoyable though.

EA and Activision actually moved to bigger places as the space at e3 wasnt sufficient anymore.
Disney probably dropped out as the only game they make had decreasing sales after each installment and sales for last years installment were disapointing, so they probably dropped out of video games.
Wargaming dropped out of e3 due to extremly small interest in their booth(not really supprising as E3 isnt really the place where people will care about shitty f2p games).

They still made and published DI, but as it seems the Toys 2 life fad died(well more like the "casual" game market in general because other big franchises aimed at the same target group failed too) and it wouldnt be supprising if there is no DI this year, same with skylanders.

who cares. People continue to watch E3 despite it's issues because it has everyone together, at least the major players. If these small extra companies move out, they're going to be losing thousands of viewers, because not as many people will tune in to "EA show" AND E3, unless it's properly spaced out I guess, but even then, i'm 100% certain a lot of exclusives and even popular multiplats will still be shown off at console manufacturer slots in E3. If you have a youtube channel or a twitter with more than 5000 subs/followers you can get a perss pass, easy. I've gone to E3 the last 5 years and all I have is a subscription button on twitch from speedrunning.

It's not "closed off" in the slightest. It's bare minimum barrier to entry to stop stupid /v/irgins from waddling their way in, and to stop children from getting in as well.

>Companies are fed up with constant negativity from the press
Am I missing something here? The press is the only source of positivity in the industry. It's your IGNs and Gamespots that hype up shit games and tell the common people that they're being too negative and are whiny babies. They're literally an extension of the marketing machine and they suck (western) game devs cocks.

I can't even remember the last time they had unannounced video games as a surprise at E3. Its been years.

you can literally buy 5000 subs on youtube for less than 10 dollars. I refuse to believe that people are so stupid as to be unable to game the system anyway. Upload videos from a proxy on a central european server, mark your account as american and tag it with literally every recent game release you can think of, I can guarantee you'll get at least 20,000 views in the first week from idiots who click whatever shows up in their feed.
>>
>>336821531
Because that is exactly what being closed to the general public means you dense motherfucker.

>general public
>anyone can get in if they spend a week, two tops shilling their shit
hell I got my first 500 subscribers on youtube from posting in the shilling threads here on /v/. It's only "closed off" in that there's a fucking childproof cap on the bottle containing your theoretical pass. Are you a god damned child? No? You can get in.

There is none. E3 is like the audition part of American Idol. You have a bunch of fools and asshats making a joke of themselves to everyone. It's the only reason I still watch E3.

who had the best show last year and why was it squeenix?

That NieR reveal had me rock hard. Hope they knock it out of the park again this year

>That's probably why Nintendo is opting to only show Zelda U and not NX
>Because the public majority won't be able to understand NX without trying it themselves

You make a good point here. Back when the NX controller leaked, people were freaking out on how it could possibly work.

I'm still on team "it was real and Nintendo contained the leak", so them revealing and showcasing in an as controlled setting as possible to convince us it's worth buying seems understandable.

Guess a 9/10 isn't enough bang for their buck and they want journos to drop their prices.
>>
>EA, disney, activision and Wargaming
Activision never had their own stageshow, neither did wargaming or disney. EA is still going to have their show, just at an another place. I hope it won't overlap with the ubisoft show
>>

Probably more the self righteous and "social commentary" side of the press desu.
>>
>>336821630

I think the issue is that at E3 one game cleans up 80% of the awards and recognition because Sony and/or Microsoft team up with Ubi/EA/Activision to shill a multi-plat as the big game of their conference.

The rest of the games get jack shit press unless they're already part of a successful 5+ million selling franchise. Unless some games journalist thinks the game is sexist and/or racist in which case it gets a load of negative press.

There's only ever a handful of big winners from E3 and the rest might as well have not shown up, especially if they're Japanese developers with a new or smaller IP.

I don't know, I always feel like indie shit is crammed down our throats when everyone just wants to see the big stuff. And what games cleaned up E3 in the recent years? Last year was Fallout 4 but even then I feel like exclusives like Horizon and Gears got a lot of recognition. I straight up don't remember the "winners" of 2013 and back.

>B-B-BUHHH E3 IS DYING!!!!!!
Let's look at the attendance over the past few years:
>2009: 41,000
>2010: 45,600
>2011: 46,800
>2012: 45,700
>2013: 48,200
>2014: 48,900
>2015: 52,200
Whoops, looks like /v/ got BTFO once again.

So did anyone figure this out? What video game-related company is at 7th and "Fig" in Downtown LA and how is this some giveaway?
