/v/eekends actually got significantly more popular after the team cycle was introduced. Numbers went up from 25-30 to 40-45, on average. Teams may or may not have been the reason for this, but that's what happened.
Then Spooky came along (whom I'm relatively neutral towards) and his playstyle pissed off A LOT of people. These people proceeded to call him out on it. If you were to ctrl-F "spooky" in a 500 post thread during that time, it would land you 50+ results. Seriously. This led to force-namefagging. People who didn't want to be called out were called out.
Then like a month ago our tourneymaker (Best of 7, one of the olderfags) quit /v/eekends and pointed to Spooky for his diminished enjoyment. The rest of the weekend (and the ones that followed) saw a noticeable drop in participation. Although correlation does not imply causation.

3. Enormous, constant shitposting. Which is to say, the people spending most of their time posting in the thread than playing the game. In other words, the people who die soon and frequently along with the trolls. There is practically nothing engaging in the thread.
4. Bad internet connections. 4chan is global, and though most are from the U.S., it's no guarantee the internet connection quality will hold up. People who insist their Wi-Fi relays the data well enough on their 20mb/s connection and they don't need a LAN adapter to lessen the interference on their family's data plan or the fucking microwave. While they stream music/video on their nearby laptop/phone.
