Why is every vita game a fucking piece of shit?

Lost 4 hours of gameplay because I had the audacity to open the party menu before a boss so I could adjust the party and save, and the game couldnt handle that intense action and crashed.

I dont think I've ever seen a handheld game crash. Vita breaking all expectations.
>>
If you hate the vita why didn't you buy the PS3 version?
>>
>>336736160
Because Jewny doesnt want to add backwards compatibility.

Why add BC when you can force people to buy an irrelevant last gen console instead.
>>
PC port when?
>>
>>336736506
I suspect we may get one if they do a rerelease of the games on the PS4 but don't get your hopes up.
>>
>>336736506
Modern Falcom don't make PC games anymore

Those issues are almost always added by shitty localization companies, like disgaea frying ps3s.

I've never had that game or any game on my vita crash on me. In fact my vita has been on for days while I play sao in bursts and it still hasent crashed.

You're playing the broken engrish sao on vita?

>>336736839
They're just a distributor. Xseed is the one responsible for this game.
>>
>>336735809
Crashes are really rare on the Vita though, it only happened to me once when playing Sorcery Saga.
>>
>>336735809
I really want this for my Vita, but I hear the loading screens are a bit long. Is this true?
>>

Did you update your game yet?
>>
>>336736828
Actually, alot of Vita games that didn't get PS4 release did end up on PC or are ending up on PC

>Danganronpa 1 and 2
>Neptunia Rebirth 1-3
>Hyper Devotion Noire
>Neptunia U
>Xblaze Code Embryo
>Crimson Girls Invite Only
>htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary
>Arcana Heart 3 Lovemax
>Disgaea

Considering this and XSEED and NISA have both really have begun to port alot of their games lately, it's got good odds.

I'm more surprised that Koei Tecmo doesn't cash in on the weeb bucks they could easily make on Steam by porting any Atelier games, Arland or Dusk.
>>
>>336740345
I'd be surprised if it happened for cold steel.
>>
>>336740345
KT doesn't actually like PC or at least 2/3 developing studio don't. Omega Force is willing to throw a bone when it comes to games they make
>>
>buy the vita version
mfw
>>
>>336740345
XSeed doesn't make ports, they get the original developers to make ports. Falcom would need to be convinced that it was worthwhile to make a PC port or to let a third party porting studio do the job. President of Falcom said that he'd like to see Zero and Ao in english and he should be well aware that PSP ports aren't feasible anymore so maybe thats a sign that they're planning on returning to PC. Like I said though, don't get your hopes up. The only thing that will affect their decision to port is whether they think the platform is viable, so just keep buying their steam/gog releases. Xanadu Next is due out sometime this year, that game is pretty fucking great.
>>
>>336740986
Didn't they used to get some Chinese company to do this?
I think the celceta for PC was done by them.
>>
>>336740558
>I'd be surprised if it happened for cold steel.
What makes you say that?

XSEED seemed quick eager to announce Trails Third even after the fiasco that was SC due to that suicidal dude from Carpe Fulgur.

>>336740654
Why did they port Toukiden, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (most of these are Chinese / Japanese language only unfortunately), Nobunaga's Ambition and Dead or Alive then?

I also fail to see how it'd be hard to port those titles over since they could probably do what Compile Heart and Idea Factory did and just port the Vita releases.

>>336740986
>Falcom would need to be convinced that it was worthwhile to make a PC port

They sure were convinced quick to conceive a Steam release for TitS Third then even when sales numbers were largely down from previously released.

Have some optimism anon!
>>
>>336741226
Romance and Nobunage were always on PC in Japan they just stopped, DoA was like a one time deal only Team Ninja hates PC because they couldn't sell their DLCs if everyone pirated and or made mods for their characters. Toukiden is co made by Omega Force
>>
>>336741226
Yes, but trails 3rd was originally a PC game. Porting from ps3 is completely different
>>
>>336740654
>KT doesn't actually like PC
Maybe because they sell their games $70, always port the inferior ps3 version and no one buy them?
>>
>>336741226
TitS The Third had a PC release already that they could work from. Making a new port is more work than fixing up an already existent one. Especially since assumedly they could reuse some of the work they did fixing up FC and SC for The Third but Cold Steel is on a full 3D engine.

>>336741216
Joyoland is the company, they do chinese PC ports of some of Falcom's games but they have no english presence, their ports aren't known for being especially high quality, and they might not even be interested.
>>
>>336741226
>Toukiden
Omega Force
>Dead or Alive
Team Ninja experimented. They now dislike PC as mods let one bypass the DLC.

>Xanadu Next
Oh yes, I will shamelessly shill this one. It helps that I think it's a great adventure action game, and that Falcom hasn't made anything really like it since Brandish: The Dark Revenant 7 years ago (more time since then vs. time between TDR and XaNext). Toxanadu might as well be the new Legend of Xanadu instead of a proper Xanadu game, regardless of quality.

Meanwhile XSEED's contracted a PC port team to work on the Little King's Story project, so they're open to letting unfamiliar but talented people do the hard work (if companies like Marvelous Japan and Falcom allow it). Hopefully LKS on Steam/GOG does well enough to convince both XSEED and the developers they've dealt with.

>>336742239
Japanese PC gaming is largely dead, especially outside the eroge/Western PC game fan community. Steam is sort of heating up as a commonly-used service (not GOG, of course), but old-school Falcom fans are the kind of people who prefer boxed releases any day and have dwindled in number since Windows 95 maimed Japan's proprietary, regional PC gaming market. Falcom's retail PC game distributor SoftBank pulled the rug on them and other developers, so it's literally too much work to distribute boxed games at that former scale vs. developing for handhelds which have even more sales potential. So until PC digital distribution and buying games digitally becomes a convention in Japan, Falcom's not going to do anything for their PC fanbase except offer compatibility fixes/new releases of games for Windows 10 and below/above.

tl;dr XSEED making Falcom PC games viable again doesn't mean shit for the Japanese PC gamers and Falcom's plans with internal PC stuff

I love Falcom to death, but even I have to admit that Trails of Cold Steel was a cliche mess. Compared to Gagharv and Trails in the Sky, the game felt like a modern fantasy high school anime or some shit like that.

The last FOURTH was good, because that is when it got really political and interesting, but the overplayed anime tropes bothered the piss out of me.

Tear of Vermillion is good, Moonlight Witch is my favourite, and Song of the Ocean is boring until the last third of the game.

They all take place over the course of seventy or so years (ToV > SotO > PotMW). If you finished and remembered ToV, PotMW is basically the end result of what the characters in ToV wanted to work towards and SotO is about what caused the conflict of PotMW.

Pretty generic by today's standards, but I like it.

It also helps that there are references to Gagharv in Trails in the Sky the 3rd and the Trails of Cold Steel series because the team and president Kondo are made up of HUGE Gagharv fans.

>>336746141
I'm not worried anyway. VIII seems to be moving back towards Seven in some ways and even has a solo-style part where you play as Dana. The "tower defense" mini-game is optional, as is most of the bloat associated with recent Ys games, and the NPCs are back to mid-2000s levels of detail and memorability. All that remains is for Falcom to channel the best parts of Nayuta, Toxanadu, and games their older employees have worked on into the Siren Island adventure.

>>336746504
Que? FC's one of XSEED's best-ever sellers, and SC pushed sales of FC on top of guaranteed launch-period purchases by fans. And ToCS has done pretty well for itself on Vita and PS3.

>>336746459
The Gagharv trilogy is considered a classic in Japan, from White Which to Tear of Vermillion to Cagesong of the Sea. We just got doctored, poorly-localized releases that Bamco used to pad their early PSP portfolio, so the problem now is learning Japanese to fully appreciate the games and/or waiting for Tom and XSEED to localize the games.

Kondo really wants to remake White Witch, and then Tears of Vermillion/Cagesong of the Sea because why stop there. He also wants to apply Kiseki's level of detail to the Gagharv stories, which is why he says he'd love to remake them but fears it'll be tough going.

You can get a flame elemental sword early on in the Eternal Maze, the first of three such weapons that give you passive element skills if you get 100%+ proficiency using them. This box room's only the first of many which could make Old Man Murray blush.

>>336747682
FWIW there's been discussion about translation-hacking the Win9x games over at Heroes of Legend, the board hosting the Ys: Memories in Celceta PC hacking project. I'm not sure how marketable the Win9x remakes will be if and once XSEED gets to them years down the line—let's hope they are so that we can have future-proofed versions of the games to play w/o using older Windows.

>>336747893
Potential's there, at least for a situation where either of the continuities exist on the same planet at different times in the past and/or future. That would take a lot of explaining, yet there have a been Gagharv references hidden in the games so far, maybe Kondo's that crazy.

Nah, having passive Thunder on makes undead enemies far less annoying to deal with because they won't revive the first time you kill them like usual. That makes the latter part of Eternal Maze and middle part of Castle Strangerock faster to complete, too, if you care about post-game letter ranks.

Gods and ghosts exist, and as far as I know, no one knows what's beyond Zemuria, so I can see the possibility. My crackpot theory is that Zemuria is the "ancient Blue Tribe" that eventually destroyed themselves with their own technology. Orbal resonance is a thing, so maybe orbments and quarts were a precursor to the Resonance Stones of Song of the Ocean. To add to that, magic WITHOUT orbments exists, so that would explain El Phildin's magic system. Again, crackpot theory.

That's just XSeed fanboys who can't handle that the lead dev on the fan patch doesn't like XSeed. If you look at the GBA temp thread about the patch, its like 2 dozen pages of people happily praising the project and all the people involved, then the lead dev says he doesn't like XSeed and suddenly every post from that point on is shitting on the project and everyone involved in it.

Granted I think his reasons for not liking XSeed are retarded, he just blindly trusts Nightwolve, but its not a good reason to outright dismiss the project.

The particle effects, geometry, font/boxes, and most textures scale well, just not the UI but rarely to any detriment (the enlarged mini-map's broken at higher resolutions sadly). I think it looks great even though Sara could do a better job, and it gives me pseudo anti-aliasing that works better/needs less processing than the game's own solution.

I've been lucky enough to not have the Master Goblin glitch, so hopefully that's easy to fix.

>>336749421
Whoops, I get confused between Flamethrower and Zeromonkey too often. Personally I'd learn Japanese before playing a translation patch with good translation but poor editing compared to the Trails in the Sky releases.
>>
>>336750005
I'm not saying he didn't go back on that stupid shit, but the fact is he was still going to to do it in the first place before people told him it was a bad idea. I only care about how the project turns out as well, but I can't have high hopes when that guy is running the show.
>>
>>336750021
Trails in the Sky FC had a "decent" translation. I was crazy enough to talk to all the NPCs at every point in my third playthrough and I found a good amount of typos (mostly from random NPCs). Really seemed like XSEED knew what a beast they had to work on and just skimped the unimportant parts to save time and money. The PC version had better proofreading done (Hatsuu said on Twitter that she worked really hard on the editing, so I guess they had to do an overhaul on the script).
>>
>>336750021
It still stretches out all the graphics. You aren't getting those extra 500k pixels by playing at 1920x1080 instead of 1440x1080, you're just getting the existing pixels stretched into rectangles.

Also, the master goblin glitch isn't really gamebreaking. You always have enough time to rush them down before they cast. It would only fuck you over on a speedrun since you need to go in and out of rooms over and over just to check for master goblins.

Agnes should be the protagonist in Xanadu Next: Scenario II or whatever sequel Falcom would make. She's got a bit of Dela Delon, but

>>336750409
XSEED did a lot of fixing for the Steam/GOG release and might be doing the occasional edit or two just to keep terminology/characterization updated, in addition to handling typo reports. They're much better than most localizers when it comes to this.

>>336750483
True, but I barely notice that the game was designed with 4:3 in mind. Benefits outweigh negatives for me, and XSEED will likely perfect the look of this game.

>>336750624
I just wish we could figure out which artist did the in-game portraits, because the promo illustrator, You Shiina, definitely has a different style. Enami did both promo art and in-game portraits for OG Ao/Zero no Kiseki.

>>336751020
Ergo, Falcom should use their mira and contract Enami again.
>>
>>336750970
Nah, it's just as shit. It looks even worse in-game when it's """animated"""

I haven't seen the animation, but the simple lines do look like they wouldn't lend themselves well to that sort of thing.
>>
>>336751330
There's blinking and mouth-flaps and that's it. That's also probably why there are less expressions, the ones that were removed wouldn't lend themselves well to animation so they cut them out. It's pretty stupid if you ask me, they had varied portraits that looked good and were animated in Zero/Ao Evo so there's literally no excuse for lacking that here.
>>
>>336751276
Ultimately it feels like they've slapped a gigantic drama CD atop the old game, but with "clean" portrait art which isn't as expressive as the voice acting nor the original portraits.

>>336751552
Sounds like Pyramid didn't want to budget for animating the more off-model expressions in a way that makes sense, despite Popful Mail for Mega/SEGA CD doing that decades ago. Enami's portrait style is subdued, less off-model, and so is easier to animate.
>>

True, I just wish they'd hired someone who's better at art for FC/SC evo. Katsumi is good, but he can't draw the Sora characters worth shit (Estelle and Renne looked off and Joshua looked terrible), they should have had the same artist that did Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki and Sen do the art for FC/SC evo.

No I know what you meant but in general the game probably doesn't run at full resolution. I know it's only for those talking cutscenes but it reminded me how some games use full resolution as a selling point, like Dragon Quest Heroes 2
>>

The 3rd builds up to Zero/Ao. XSEED has not confirmed anything, but they said "buying copies would probably help". ALso pretty much confirmed that the chances of doing the Evo games are almost nonexistant.

>>336752140
Not doing Crossbell after everything 3rd reveals about later games would be the worst kind of blue-balling. XSEED's made a point of going beyond the call of duty to please their customers (see localizing Trails SC for PSP years after the platform died outside Japan), so they wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing there's work not yet finished. If the Trails releases so far sell/have sold enough to justify Crossbell localizations, then XSEED's gonna have to figure out how they'll get PC versions of the games ready (ideally by contracting a port team to make Ao's release possible).
>>
>>336752712
Yeah even my cheap $100 tablet can run it perfectly.
>>
>>336752309
It's not like we need the Evo games. Just a minor graphics update and voiced lines.

If they did Evo versions there would probably be a shitfit for full on dub. But if they don't dub whats the point in wasting time and money just slapping on the text translation? Nothing significantly changes in the story.

Most of the VA's aren't bad, in my opinion. But I fucking hate how Alisa was voiced (not talking about the acting quality, just the sound of the voice). Yui Horie > Christine Marie Cabanos. I remember people complaining on the XSEED forum and Tom just saying she sucks or something. Can't remember, this was a while ago.

I find that very hard to believe. Most japanese people probably but in the west handhelds have never been THE platform of choice for any particular genre except maybe puzzle games.
>>
>>336752660
Not only not viable, it's fucking impossible. Falcom had to pull people out of retirement for SC, you think they'd do that again two years later just for a version that will sell 16 copies when literally everyone who plays it on PSP could easily play it on PC and most of them could probably fucking play it on a tablet/laptop if portability meant that much to them?
>>
>>336753517
New Chie? That's Erin Fitzgerald, NOIRE, not Nepgear.
Cabanos sounds a bit like Cristina Vee, only 10 times worse.

And by "pull out of retirement", you mean Kure Eiji, who runs Kure Software Koubou (with former student developers of his) and did the original Kiseki PSP ports. He's really old for Japanese video game developer, having done a ton of NEC PC-x8 wargames (the First Queen series) in his prime. I wouldn't be surprised if XSEED inadvertently forced him to work last year because Falcom didn't do those ports in the first place.

Also git gud, Emma is great caster.

Are Jaegers legally allowed to operate in the Calvard Republic? I want to see the eventual Calvard arc star Jaeger members. It would deal with the struggles between the public perception of them as nothing but violent thugs, the infighting between the different factions of Jaegers, etc.

Sara gets all her development in optional scenes that you only get if you do bonding events with her, which is really dumb. However, she's still more fleshed-out than any of the main girls.

They're all pretty terrible characters and all of them are about as developed as the least developed main characters in previous games. Cold Steel has way too much padding and they fucked up by introducing the entire playable cast except Millium at once.

Nah, you actually see a bit about her learning to take her job more seriously and coming to terms with the loss of her friends. However all of that are locked behind scenes that you're basically gimping yourself by viewing.

One combination I liked using was
Damage x3 Quartz
Double Damage @ 1st Hit quartz
Attack Up 3
Attack Up 2

All battles were over in an instant, and most boss battles were halfway over.

Or main story. Sara seems to have great past around her.

It could be chance to dig deeper into what happened in there too.

Of course, this was using Laura since she had the highest base attack and using 200 S-Craft on bosses.

It's Falcom Gakuen stuff, which isn't canon, takes aspects from characters and cranks them up, or takes jokes and treats the characters as if they were canon for the sake of comedy.

And? The crafts can't be edited or changed to suit the charcter or help the group. They are set.

Quatrz offer a ton of customization and let you fix those weakness. There' obviously stuff for AoE def and heals. Not to metion quartz to up defence if your characters are being beat on.

Since we're talking about quartz now, I think I'm in the minority that doesn't really like the quartz system in this game. I get that using the same system over and over again isn't something you want to do for a long running series, but "equip this quartz to get a spell" bothered the shit out of me. I know they changed it so now you can equip the same "type" of quartz more than once now, unlike the previous games, so you can mess with the stats more, but I still prefer the way you had to think out what quartz loadout you needed to equip to get certain spells.

Quartz abuse should be illegal. You'd think... oh hey maybe they fixed things and I can't do
"UWOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
"DRAGON DIVE!"
and oblitherate everything anymore.

And then it only gets worse with more people who can wreck everthing.

>I get that using the same system over and over again isn't something you want to do for a long running series,
If it ain't broke don't fix it

The new system is basically materia except without the stat debuffs (IE shit). The old system was better but casual faggots whined about having to do simple grade-school arithmetic so they changed it to appeal to a wider audience (IE retards).

Sort of like how everyone in the main cast is just waifu bait now instead of fleshed-out characters in addition to waifu bait.

Just got the recipe trophy earlier. Looks like I'm doing a 3rd playthrough eventually. Need some more of the other students profiles and some monsters profiles.

I'll try to finish before CS II in September.

I started playing Neptunia (on the Vita) a few days ago, and it's glitched two times now. During the dialogue section, the characters simply stop talking. I can press buttons and the icons show up (stop, fast forward, even the text log) but it simply refuses to continue. I had no choice but to turn off the game and restart, losing all progress since my last save. Anyone else have this problem?
>>
>>336759554
Here is what I would do. I would make the system the same, but I would allow the player to make their own quartz. The player is given a set amount of points, which increase as the game goes, and if you want to get certain spells, you need to MAKE the quartz based on the requires elemental points. Depending on how you make your quartz, you will either get spells, stat boosts, or both. That way, you have the strategic element point system of quartz from the old game, and the "just equip this to get the spell" system of CS.

>>
>>336759886
I think a better way to do it would just to add quartz with a high elemental value but no effect. That way if you're too lazy/stupid to make a good setup to get spells with real quartz you can just get the spells you want by forfeiting stat bonuses.

But hey, the new system is here to stay because it's been widely praised by the casuals they're trying to appeal to with Sen.

The weird part is that I THINK the whole elemental points from quartz count is still in the game. Does that even do anything if it is?

No it's not, spells are based purely on getting them from quartz.
