Do you have any strange vidya related phobias?
For example, going outside of the playable map in any game scares the shit out of me, I have the urge to nope the fuck out and just quit everytime it happens. I actually had to force myself to do the two missions in San Andreas where you fly a plane in the middle of the ocean, shit was unsettling as fuck

Just turn around as soon as you see the incoming plane, then you can easily catch up with the plane in time.

The mission I hated the most was Robbing Uncle Sam. Fucking forklift controls and fucking Ryder dying 30 seconds in. What's funny I passed Wrong Side of the Tracks or Zero's last two missions on the first try. On PC, using keyboard only.

Oh and Vice City had the best "Mission Passed" theme.

I've always been really fucking scared of ladders. I absolutely hate ladder scares and if I even get a slightest sensation that there might be a jump scare at a ladder I just climb that shit eyes closed until I reach the top. It doesn't even need to be a proper scare that's supposed to scare you, even the slightest spontaneous event makes me jump. It's even worse since most games don't do anything special with ladders so it becomes unpredictable.

Reminds me of this one time, years back when I was playing vanilla WoW.

I was PvPing in Alterac Valley, when suddenly shut bugged the fuck out for me, and I started falling through the world. I didn't just fall and die after a few seconds though, it was weird. I just kept going and going until I completely disconnected for some reason.

Logged back in, and next thing I knew I was dead and half way across the world map in Dun Morogh.

Probably not as interesting to read as it was to see, but it was definitely the weirdest thing to ever happen to me in a video game.

being deep underwater makes me nope the fuck out too.

Just crash landing a plane in the water in GTA V and ending up deep as fuck and trying to swim up legitimately freaks me out. Partly because I'm scared of what may also be in the water (like octabrains, weird reptiles, sharks, whatever) but also because of a weird kind of vertigo, being either far from the surface or far from the seafloor scares me.

There was this shitty little 3D game a while back where you played as a ball and had to jump hit stars, think it wass called Orbs. Anyway you could upgrade various stats of the ball and eventually jump outside the wall surrounding the pit-like level. Beyond it was an essentially infinite plain with a grid of repeating pits containing empty copies of the level, but without any objects.

Hmm. I can't think of anything really. I used to be scared of fog to hide bad draw distance on old games but nowadays it doesn't happen anymore. Now that I think about it though there is a thing.

This is going to be a confession but I am scared of games remaining sony exclusives. I don't own a sony console and I never will because I think the company is anti-consumer shit that doesn't care about the industry and just wants to see it burn. They're the barely better than EA.

For some reason it's always unsettling when a good game gets announced as a 'sony exclusive' and I'm scared it will always be stuck and held back on bad hardware. It's funny because I don't have that feeling with Nintendo or Microsoft stuff.

Anyway with emulation and steam growth that fear has toned down but I still don't like it.

I fucking love those moments though. It gives a great way of progression in the game, and I end up just standing there for multiple minutes just looking into the distance. It's very calming to me.

What is my videogame phobia though, are very dark places, while having a flashlight or light source that isn't consistent. Especially when there are very deadly monsters around who tend to make noise in those areas. That really doesn't feel good at all.

Makes me uncomfortable when I turn the camera while on a planets surface and see a gaint moon or planet fill up the sky.

Something about it being so huge and close makes me uncomfortable. Like it's going to hit the planet I'm on or maybe because I'm used to the sky being clear not having a massive object fill it up.

Once I get used to it it's beautiful and calming but those first 2 seconds are nerve racking.

Can't say I really have that phobia OP, I've always loved getting out of the map in video games. I'm not too afraid of water either, I do get a little spooked in the deep ocean in GTA, but nothing crippling. I will say however that I got really spooked exploring the farther ocean areas of Fallout 4 when it first came out. The water is so polluted that it's impossible to see more than 2 feet ahead, and I thought for fucking sure that there would be some radioactive sea monsters. I should have known that Bethshitda are incompetent and just left the entire ocean completely empty.

Me too, I actually remember the first mod I installed for San Andreas
It was basically a shitty total conversion that replaced the whole map with an island inspired by Lost.
The island was huge as fuck but completely empty, there were no buildings, no vehicles, no roads, only some badly positioned trees and bushes.
I started exploring a little with the jetpack cheat but when I realized I was completely alone and there was just empty land for miles I just noped the fuck out and uninstalled the mod

I used to be scared of ladders in games too but not because of some irrational phobia or anything, rather because in 90% of games ladders were a fucking death trap because of janky controls. Nothing like beating a difficult section and then falling to your death because the fucking game wouldn't register your attempts to go down the fucking ladder. This was especially true in old FPS, now most games have a dedicated "use ladder"button, the downside of which being it takes fucking forever to go up/down ladders now.

I wouldn't say I'm actually scared of it, but I do get a distinct sense of isolation when playing in an empty map. Or on an abandoned multiplayer server, even when it's running bots. Hell, the bots emphasize it, if anything, like the lights still being on or a tv still playing in an abandoned building.

I actually kind of wish there were some horror stories creepypasta that used this, perhaps using other stuff mentioned here, like graphical glitches. Or maybe even trying to make a horror film/short using game footage. I doubt it would really be that good, but I'd still find it interesting to read.

Not a phobia, but rather a strange sensation. It happens a lot when I play platformers. Let's say there's a long jump ahead of me and the only way forward is to land on a super tiny platform. After I jump across and barely make the landing, the muscles in my anus contract and I get a brief feeling of tightness there. I don't know how else to describe it. Maybe it's a sign of relief in my body? It happens especially when the platforms are high up in the air and falling means certain death. Please tell me I'm not the only one. I've never told anyone about this so I don't know if it's common or not.

>>336755805
>falling
Errr... maybe. Minor spoilers ahead. Doesn't spoil the actual end game, only the last big area.

Basically, there are a series of pathways in an infinitely open space, overlaping on top and botton of eachother, connecting a series of "islands". You can't see much farther into a sort of fog.
At some point, you're forced to jump into a huge hole, falling into the gray abyss for some solid 5 or so secons, until you eventually line up with a pathway bellow. If you fall randomly through out this segment you'll also eventually fall on a pathway that is generated bellow you

It's not a realistic looking game, so I guess that helps, but since you can't see where you're falling for some moments makes it kinda scary.

I stopped playing Shadow of the Colossus for about a week the first time when I got to the eel colossus because that shit was too scary. Huge monster underneath you and you have to wait in the middle of the lake in order to coax it to surface and attack you. Just seeing a vague snakelike thing and occasional flashes of light in the murky depths is really unsettling. To this day, I still get an uncomfortable feeling when I play the part

get the same things when you fall a long way in a video game, strangely enough it happened to me last playing risk of rain when i jumped off the bridge in the snow level
>>

Fuck dude, same fear. I think my ONLY fear is being in the middle of a body of water and not knowing what the fuck is around and below me. Even in games, that shit is unsettling.
>>
Anyone else hate the low quality sounds of games from the N64 era? Don't get me wrong, I loved them at the time, but playing them now is unsettling as fuck. Like the noises IG-88 makes in Shadows of the Empire. Freaky as shit.
>>
>>336758761
yeah that shit was intense the first time
but it was a one time deal for how exciting it was.

I saw hard when I was a little kid, that movie gave me an open water phobia that I still can't get over. Jak 1 further reinforced that phobia with lurker sharks. Hearing their heartbeat grow stronger really creeped me out. I'm surprised I got past the second village, since it required you to swim for a couple minutes to a partially sunken city.

That's adrenaline, anon. I get it too do you also get really cold armpit sweat when it happens
>>
>>336753076
Butthole clenching is an extremely common reaction.
>>
Since I was a kid I've been terified of glitches. Small errors are fine, but if my character falls through the floor or something I shut the game off and can't touch it for at least a week.

You mean Mad Dogg. Same here.

Well, at least you'll always have Bethesda games.
>>
Low draw distance. I remember playing Megaman Legends and almost shitting my goddamn pants at the underground area with the spider bots. Vanilla Morrowind was a goddamn nightmare.

Opaque bodies of water are another one. Looking down and not being able to see anything but my feet suspended above interminable nothingness makes me lose my sense of perspective and space and makes me think literally any moment something's going to approach from just beyond the curtain of opacity and drag me screaming into the endless depths.

Being stuck in the middle of the ocean without a boat is literally my biggest fear. There's an entire world of biological and geological diversity below your feet and yet you can't see ANY of it. That just freaks me the fuck out.

Shit, it happens when I invade other people.

>>336759482
No, but I get really bad butt sweat.

Jaws*
Fuck I'm tired
>>
>>336759487
he doesn't mean butt clenching, he means that psuedo stomach flip sensation you sometimes get in you lower body, It's actually a symptom of simulation sickness

fucking majoras mask

>swim down that great bay thing
>giant ass eel right in my face

Bobbit worm
>>
Always get nightmares of me flying and cant keep going up because is a invisible wall. Blame video games for that
>>
>>336752163
>that wet dry world

Ocarina of Time has that one moment where you're descending in the water temple with the boots, in the main room, and the spike enemies are below you. You can't control Link while you're descending underwater, so there's a lot of tension in that moment.
>>
>>336759745
i actually get simulation sickness in any first person game, can't play fps to this day
>>
>all these deep water posts
I personally love deep water in games, it gives me a sense that the world is huge and needs to be explored.
>>
>>336759745
What. He clearly described butt clenching. Nothing near the stomach was mentioned.

Ahhhh... this many people scared by large bodies of water... Little do they know the path to awakening is nowhere else than deep inside the lake.

Jump on in already, embrace the great ones lurking in the depths... No one can stop us now.

Same. Also same feeling with out of bounds. Always hope there's something secret the devs left.

I remember I found the sections outside of the testing area in Portal quite unnerving (before the furnace scene). I always felt there was someone behind me or something
>>
When I was little I was afraid of playing Spyro because on one of the commercials there was this fucked up sheep that said something about making the game never end. So I thought if I played it I'd be stuck playing it forever and I'd never be able to turn it off.

I was a dumb kid
>>
>>336760084
the butt is like super near to the stomach. Where is your butt/stomach located?
>>
>>336760112
At least the Rom fight you're not swimming in an ocean and the water seems like it's just a very shallow lake.
Otherwise I don't think I could do that fight.
>>
>vice city
>use the pontoon helicopter and fly into the pool area at diaz's mansion
>fly up and out of the pool ceiling
>fly under the city with the blue void under you
>>
Mine it's simple: let my character die, but only if i'm the good guy. I start to think in the the aftermath of his/her defeat (his/her body being humillated, the people who are close to or depend on him/she being defenseless, all that shit that would happen if the MC loses against the bad guys).

My favorite examples:

>I hate to think in the final fate of Batman and Pyg's hostages.

>Batman's corpse being shown as a trophy

>>336759620
This, the first Legends on 64 was pure nightmare fuel in those caverns
>>
>>336760398

Such fear, such anxiety must be removed from the way in our path to awakening anon...

If I told you nothing was gonna harm you, would you dive right into the darkest part of the mariana trench...? I just want you to meet some friends I made in the depths..

Now that I think about, in Half Life 2 I'd keep close to the corners so I wouldn't get snuck up on. I just don't like the idea of something attacking me from where I can't see
