Trusting reviews any more is a bad idea. I have the game and I think it's great. It's not the best FPS out right now, but it is my new favorite MOBA. The characters are pretty funny and everyone plays differently. Seriously, play the game for yourself. It's a fun game. Just wish there was a few more maps on it, but I guess it IS a MOBA, so whatever.

I've been following GI for almost a year now. Some of them have been working there for 24 plus years and genuinely care about video games. From what I can tell they give their honest OPINIONS about games, have never jumped on the SJW bandwagon, and have st least publicly stated there are no paid reviews.
In all of their reviews, even with scores of 9/10 they tackle all positive and negative aspects of the game. In my opinion it's a great source and they are trustworthy.

There's a lot wrong with Battleborn but "bullet sponge" health is none of it - that even works well and adds to the flow of the game.
The biggest problem is the awful PvE that is supposed to make up half of the game's content but falls short of the fun competitive multiplayer experience. Had they focused only on MP then we'd have probably gotten more than 2 maps for each mode (right now it's only 6 in total). The PvE is unbearably bland and repetitive and so awkward that one comes to wonder what they were going for to begin with, probably a remnant from trying to make everything they touch a Borderlands-clone.
The second biggest problem is the Unreal Engine 4 and how awful it actually is these days - Gearbox used too much UE4 default shit and didn't disable enough of it in favour of own implementations, though it's admittably pretty hard to work with an engine someone else wrote and change anything it without running into plenty of issues.
The third biggest issue is balance - half the heroes are inferior to other ones that could be picked and "healers" and "tanks" don't really work as human opponents obviously just focus squishy players over tanky ones doing litte damage. This isn't even an issue about shifting around numbers, it's about having to completely overhaul the entire rooster and giving every hero a new purpose, abilities and interactions with other heroes - that surely won't happen and as such the game will remain a half-broken mess until it's dead.
Wouldn't say I regret my purchase as I didn't buy it for 50 bucks but instead for 37 during a sale on a shady key site and that price the game is worth but aside from that I can't recommend the game in its current state.
