The game is fun. It's casual but guess what, so is TF2, so is Left 4 Dead, and those are both fun games. When I want to play something competitive, I play CS.
It's got the visual polish we expect from a Blizzard game. The gameplay is already fun, it accomplishes all that it needs to -in beta-, and it's going to get better as they refine the mechanics.
And maybe I am an immature manchild but this game makes me nostalgic, it seems to be a throwback to the times when video games were supposed to be fun above all else. The world is lighthearted without being too kiddish. Even though it's a new IP it makes me feel kind of nostalgic, maybe it reminds me of Nintendo.
Blizzard pulls a rabbit out of their hat, they make their first FPS ever and it happens to be pretty great, and the trolls come out to complain. They complain it's too much like TF2 when TF2 was literally a re-skin of a 1999 Half-Life mod. They complain it's too kiddish because I guess they're not tired of Cowadooty realism yet.
This reaction was to be expected, but the vocal minority won't really have any impact on the game's success, because Blizzard happened to do it right on their first attempt.
