I loved that BBs OST was more about instruments and less about chorus that overshadows everything else, especially DS2 had some bad contenders.

To explain would be to spoil it a really crucial part of the game.

It's the last or 2nd to last (depending on your track through thr game) boss's theme. It rivals MGS boss fights in terms of beauty and impact. I felt like crying it was so cool.

>>
>>336628412
Considering there are large swathes of color going behind the moon there, and the fact that in game the setting sun doesn't leave the sky any color remotely similar to that, and the fact that you can save Cleric Beast to be among the final bosses in your playthrough.

Look at all those clouds. You see that darkest patch of color on the moon there? Along the lower right? Kinda looks like it matches up with a dark spot on the clouds there. Now trace it down to the lower left, where it doesn't follow.

It's the moon dude. The Moon is canonically in front of clouds in game, too.

honestly dont remember any from BB or Ds3 besides the obvious gwyn motif. I think they stopped making the songs catchy after Dark Souls 1 so they're all pretty unmemorable. Also they started to do this thing where a song doesnt actually kick in until you take half a bosses health bar down and though cool in concept its dumb when the first half of the song sucks or vice versa in some rare cases

Okay, so paleblood refers to the Moon Presence?

What does Laurence have to do with this?
The moon is or is controlled by the Moon Presence?
What do you mean by three thirds cords? Don't have have the 3 1/3 cords?
>>

The Byrgenwerth spider conceals all manner of rituals, and keeps our lost master from us.

>>
>>336635067
>What does Laurence have to do with this?
Laurence controls the church, who distribute the Great One's blood, which fuck things up to the edge of apocalypse.

>The moon is or is controlled by the Moon Presence?
Either or.

>What do you mean by three thirds cords? Don't have have the 3 1/3 cords?
Just means that, yeah, you need the three one-thirds of the cords.
>>
>>336635156
When you kill Rom, it makes all Amygdalas visible and also triggers the blood moon phase. The rest, you're speaking in code.

Master Willem was right. Evolution without courage will be the ruin of our race.
>>
>>336635416
>When you kill Rom, it makes all Amygdalas visible and also triggers the blood moon phase.
But! If you Hunter's Mark out after killing Rom, no such blood moon is summoned. You have to interact with the Queen of Yharnam, still mourning over her dead child, for the blood moon to make itself apparent.

>>336635324
Isn't Laurnece that Frist Vicar boss. He became he first Chalice Beast or something. So he spread the blood that spread the beast disease. How does that beckon the moon presence?

>>336635490
Good point.
>>
>>336635854
Seek paleblood to transcend the hunt.

To escape this dreadful Hunter's Dream, halt the source of the spreading scourge of beasts, lest the night carry on forever.
>>
>>336617868
why was bloodborne so god-tier brehs?

why did dark souls 3 suck so much?
>>
>>336635854
>How does that beckon the moon presence?
The Healing Church came in contact with the Great Ones for the first time thanks to Ebrietas.
The school of Mensis, which is part of the Church, tried to summon the Moon Presence with a ritual that would have granted a body to Mergo, that would have been used as an offering.
>>
>>336636178
Bloodborne was new and a chance for Miyazaki to do all the things he was wanting to and Dark Souls 3 was forced under contract with Bandai Namco. The quality of a publisher in any given situation makes all the difference.
>>
>>336617868

that's not cleric beast
>>
>>336636014
So seek the moon presence to transcend the hunt. If you kill the moon presence, you become a baby great one (replacing the moon presence?)

Isn't the moon presence the creator of the nightmare? Do you now host the nightmare, even though you become a baby?

>To escape this dreadful Hunter's Dream, halt the source of the spreading scourge of beasts, lest the night carry on forever.

So by killing the moon presence, you end the nightmare?
>>
>>336636432
The Mensis ritual must be stopped, lest we all become beasts.

Madmen toil surreptitiously in rituals to beckon the moon. Uncover their secrets.
>>
>>336636432
>If you kill the moon presence, you become a baby great one (replacing the moon presence?)
Yes, if you consume the umbilical cords.
>Isn't the moon presence the creator of the nightmare? Do you now host the nightmare, even though you become a baby?
Yes.
>So by killing the moon presence, you end the nightmare?
There's no way to end the nightmare as far as I know. You can however escape by letting Gehrman kill you at the end of the Night.
>>
>>336636229
So the queen of Yharnam had a baby, Mergo. The baby died during birth? Is that why it doesn't have a body? The baby is a spirit? You hear it crying, but it's invisible, like the Wet-nurse is.

So this would be ritual would have summoned the moon presence and given Mergo a body. And that body would have been the offering of this ritual? Why would they want to summon the moon presence in the first place? Isn't it against all the other great ones for some reason?
>>
>>336636826
The Great Ones are sympathetic in nature, and will often answer when called upon.
>>
>>336636775
>You can however escape by letting Gehrman kill you at the end of the Night.
But Eileen/Djura are still caught up in the hunt, but they don't dream anymore.
>>
>>336634949
The sound effects are also louder than the background music so it drowns it.
>>
>>336636826
>The baby died during birth?
"Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate."
Queen Yharnam has a gaping hole in her womb, the baby was taken away from her.
Maybe Mergo never developed a body because of her premature abortion, or maybe she's formless because that's just how she is. Some great ones don't have a body, Oedon for example.
>Why would they want to summon the moon presence in the first place?
They wanted to discover the eldritch truth and transcend humanity.

>>336637048
They did, and they're not part of the hunt anymore.
Eileen is a hunter of hunters, Djura is retired.
>>
>>336637371
>they're not part of the hunt anymore
but they're still caught up in the fuckfest.
>>
>>336636775
So if you kill Gherman, it's implied that you allowed him to escape the nightmare?

If you escape the nightmare, you wake up in Yharnam. Is that the "real" world? Is that who beast plague just in the nightmare? Is real Yharnam just a normal place?

Even if you kill the creator of the nightmare, it continues? How does that work? The Moon Presence, Orphan of Kos and Mergo's Wet-Nurse are the only bosses that say "Nightmare Slain". Are all 3 of them hosting the nightmare?

>>336636645
The mensis ritual is what would have summoned the moon presence and sacrifices Mergo's body? What purpose would that serve and why would it cause everyone to turn into a beast?

>>336636981
So if they help people, why is the main character killing them? To escape the dream?
>>
>>336637596
>So if they help people, why is the main character killing them? To escape the dream?
They don't understand what they're doing to humans when they "help" them. Any more than we can understand ants. Humans and Great Ones are beyond each others' comprehension, but Great Ones are sympathetic, meaning if they're called upon, they'll try to help. Humans wanted insight to evolve and grow, but they didn't expect to lose their sanity in the process to become powerful beasts.
>>
>>336637536
It's their own choice.

>>336637596
If you kill Gehrman you allow him to escape the nightmare, but if you don't consume the umbilical cords you take his place.
>If you escape the nightmare, you wake up in Yharnam. Is that the "real" world?
Yes.
>Is that who beast plague just in the nightmare? Is real Yharnam just a normal place?
When you visit Yharnam during the hunt you're still in the waking world. The scourge of the beast is real, but it ends along with the night of the hunt.
>Even if you kill the creator of the nightmare, it continues?
Yes, see Honoring Wishes ending. "And so, the hunt begins again".
>The Moon Presence, Orphan of Kos and Mergo's Wet-Nurse are the only bosses that say "Nightmare Slain". Are all 3 of them hosting the nightmare?
Moon Presence is the source the Nightmare's Dream, Orphan is the source the Hunter's Nightmare (the DLC), Nurseis the source of the Nightmare of Mensis. Each nightmare has a human host (Gehrman, Maria, Micolash).
>>
>>336637371
So the Wet-Nurse stole Mergo from the queen? So Amygdala, the Wet-Nurse, Moon Presence, Emissary, Rom and Ebrietas all lost a child? They're all female? Did they each find a surrogate? Was Gherman the moon presence's surrogate?

>>336637759
Interesting. So insight causes people to go mad. So the world is ravaged by this beast disease. Is it the insight, the blood or both that caused the plague?

It's pretty clearly stated somewhere that the blood itself being ministrated into everybody's veins by the Healing Church (that also is a miracle cure and so forth) is what transforms people into beasts, they found that Old Blood in the Chalice Dungeons (the Labyrinth), and it's implied the same mistake was made by the people of Loran, and they had their own beast scourge that destroyed their lands.
>>
>>336637596
>The mensis ritual is what would have summoned the moon presence and sacrifices Mergo's body? What purpose would that serve and why would it cause everyone to turn into a beast?
The Mensis ritual is supposed to create a body for Mergo (the One Reborn), that would function as a surrogate child for the Moon Presence.
The ritual would turn everyone into beasts because the moon accelerates beasthood.

>>336638198
>So the Wet-Nurse stole Mergo from the queen?
I think so.
>So Amygdala, the Wet-Nurse, Moon Presence, Emissary, Rom and Ebrietas all lost a child? They're all female?
Amygdala is male (Patches calls him "Lord Amygdala"), Moon Presence too I think. He could be Mergo's original father.
>>
>>336637596
>Is that the "real" world?
It's all real, dude. The dream worlds are just different dimensions and stuff, just as tangible as the regular plane.

It's Lovecraft mythos, not "WAS IT ALL A DREAM??" bullshit.
>>
>>336637596
>Even if you kill the creator of the nightmare, it continues?
They create a certain Dreamland, which is self-sustaining within itself after conception. MP created the Hunter's Dream, Mergo's Wet Nurse created the Nightmare of Mensis, OoK created the Hunter's Nightmare. They don't necessarily host their particular Dreamlands, but they create them.
>>336638198
>So Amygdala, the Wet-Nurse, Moon Presence, Emissary, Rom and Ebrietas all lost a child?
Either have or will, yes.
>They're all female?
I think Great Ones transcend gender honestly.
>Was Gherman the moon presence's surrogate?
Yeah, and you were the Doll's surrogate some people think.
>Is it the insight, the blood or both that caused the plague?
Blood caused the scourge of the beasts, while insight caused insanity.

>>

I think it's Mergo himself that powers the Nightmare of Mensis, as you kill the Wet Nurse, a good 30 seconds later after Mergo's crying stops you get the Nightmare Slain message.

When does the nightmare begin?

So if you end the nightmare, it also ends the scourge in the real world. If the nightmare begins again, each time it's ended, does the real world scourge begin again as well, or is it only the nightmare that continues?

The honouring wishes ending takes place when the moon presence still being alive.

So the Nightmare's Dream encompasses both the Hunter's Nightmare and Nightmare of Mensis, or are all 3 separate?

>>336638560
What? Okay. I can understand that. They're both fucked up worlds, both with the same scourge? What's the point of having two of the same worlds? So you want to leave to return to your original dimension?

>>336638761
So the mad ones are victims of the insight, beasts are the victims of the blood? So there's those 2 issues going around.

I swear, I've played through this game, read so many wikis, watched lore videos and I still have trouble understanding this game's lore/story and that's why I love it. This rivals Neon Genesis Evangelion in terms of story mind fuckery.
>>
>>336638872
I'm not exactly sure, but Orphan and Gehrman are definitely connected.
When you kill Orphan the doll will tell you that for the first time she heard Gehrman sleeping peacefully.
When Byrgenwerth raided the Fishing Hamlet and killed all its inhabitants the last survivor (the beggar you meet at the beginning) cursed them, all their children and the children of their children. I think Orphan, which is a great one and therefore "sympathetic in spirit" listened to his prayers and created the curse.
The exponents of the Healing Church are the successors of Byrgenwerth, and the hunters are their successors. Gehrman worked with the Church, and inherited the curse. By killing Orphan, you free Gehrman from his curse.
>>
>>336639325
Gherman and Maria murdered the Orphan of Kos, yes.

Since Gherman was the First Hunter (at least as far as Yharnam goes) all other hunters inherited the curse. Or maybe it's just the blood that's cursed. w/e
>>
>>336639217
>When does the nightmare begin?
I think it started when the Healing Church summoned the Moon Presence.
Moon Presence captivated Gehrman and made him the host of his dream.
>So the Nightmare's Dream encompasses both the Hunter's Nightmare and Nightmare of Mensis, or are all 3 separate?
They're different dimensions.
>>
>>336638876
>I think it's Mergo himself that powers the Nightmare of Mensis
Yeah, you're right, sorry. Yharnam's womb was "blessed" with a child (Mergo), that was meant for a Great One, and the Wet Nurse cared for Mergo in place of the Great One who used Yharnam as a surrogate. Which Great One stole Mergo is not known.
>>336638872
>>336639325
Who else to torture but the First Hunter, and the man who ransacked an innocent village? Keep in mind Gherman uses a scythe and the OoK uses a placenta shaped like a scythe.
>>336639460
>Or maybe it's just the blood that's cursed.
Nah, all hunters are cursed. The Priest at the beginning of the Fishing Hamlet tells us that.
>>
>>336639325
Gehrman was from Byrgenwerth, and so were Laurence, Maria, probably Simon and Ludwig and the other old Hunters, and of course Willem, (all speculation but they're all in the know in the nightmare it seems and were probably all the folk from Byrgenwerth that began their research on the Fishing Hamlet people who got transformed from worshipping the beached mother Kos) and they, including Gehrman and Maria, all feel particularly guilty about their research at the hamlet and in the Research Hall, so that's why Gehrman is at peace once you kill the Orphan, and why Maria entered a pact with either the Orphan or with Kos' writhing consciousness to keep the Hamlet and its people safe in the Nightmare, where she serves as the host and the gatekeeper to it. I think it's powered by the Orphan, since a black ghost thing over Kos' corpse that you have to hit to end it is in the shape of the Orphan. Just what I think makes sense.
>>
>>336639583
>Yeah, you're right, sorry. Yharnam's womb was "blessed" with a child (Mergo), that was meant for a Great One, and the Wet Nurse cared for Mergo in place of the Great One who used Yharnam as a surrogate. Which Great One stole Mergo is not known.
I see several distinct possiblities:

-Mergo doesn't power the nightmare, the Wet Nurse does; the nightmare slain and Mergo silencing were just her dying and no longer sustaining either of them.

-Mergo powers the nightmare as a pact with Micolash being the host

-Maybe the Wet Nurse was called upon by Micolash and co to keep Mergo safe and protected and cared for

-The Wet Nurse is a conjuration of Mergo's craving a mother figure since he lacks one

I think it's down to interpretation.
>>
>>336639781
>he lacks one
He has one. You meet her like right before the boss battle.
>>
>>336639935
Obviously but she doesn't get to the Nightmare till you kill Rom and uncover the Mensis situation, until then he and Yharnam were forced apart form each other and she wanted him back
>>
>>336639935
Mergo was separated from her original parents, and the Wet Nurse takes care of her.
I doubt that Yharnam can actually interact with the child, which is why she cries before you kill Wet Nurse, and thanks you when you kill her.
>>
Bloodborne has this weird thing with babies. Who is the Orphan of Kos and orphan of? He's apparently born as you enter the boss arena. He also attacks you with a fucking placenta.
>>
>>336640185
>Who is the Orphan of Kos and orphan of?
Kos

I also think he was already born but had crawled back into the womb instinctually, the village elder person at the start of the hamlet makes mentioned of "the poor wizened child"
>>
>>336639325
What is the curse? What does it do?
>>
>>336639551
Ah, so they're all different. Interesting. When does your character enter the dream? Apparently the game begins in your original world.
>>
>>336639781
>Mergo powers the nightmare as a pact with Micolash being the host
Micolash is a host only in the sense that he beckoned the Wet Nurse. The Wet Nursing conceived the Nightmare of Mensis.
>>336639217
>When does the nightmare begin?
The "nightmare" begins when the PC wakes up after blood ministration. The nightmare is when the scourge of the beast reaches a breaking point and a hunter is beckoned by the Hunter's Dream to fix everything. This nightmare realm's creation is dependent on normal Yharnam's condition. Likewise, this nightmare influences Yharnam as well.
>So if you end the nightmare, it also ends the scourge in the real world.
Yes, if the called upon Hunter follows Gherman's guidance, then the "real" Yharnam's scourge is dealt with, and things calm down until it'll happen again, and another Hunter is called upon.
>each time it's ended, does the real world scourge begin again as well
Technically, yes, but it is at a much lesser point than when a Hunter is called to deal with it. The nightmare is on hold until another Hunter is called.
>They're both fucked up worlds, both with the same scourge?
The nightmare realm's creation is dependent on normal Yharnam's condition.
>So the mad ones are victims of the insight, beasts are the victims of the blood? So there's those 2 issues going around.
can you clarify this?
>>
>>336640317
>What is the curse?
To be doomed to an endless hunt upon death in the Hunter's Nightmare. Maria actually had still been trapped in the Nightmare when you found her, she had tried to kill herself to escape the Nightmare and cease existence in all dimensions, but couldn't, as a result of the curse.
>>
>>336640185
>Who is the Orphan of Kos and orphan of?
He's Kos' child obviously, Kos is the carcass you see on the Hamlet Coast. Every Great One loses its child, and Kos lost her own by dying before his birth.

>>336640410

There is the beast issue coming from the blood. Then there is the insanity issue coming from the insight granted by the great ones. I'm was just looking for an example of someone who became insane from the insight, but is unaffected by the beast scourge.

>>336640698
Oh, so like in all other souls games. The curse just means you can't die and have to continue your quest.

>>336641014
>>336641085
>>336641126
>>336641158
That wouldn't make much sense to me. Your goal is to leave the dream. If the dreams are just places, then Gherman wouldn't need to kill you to release you from the dream, you would just leave using the lanterns like you do 1000 times during the game.
>>
>>336641907
You can't abandon the dream until the night ends.
>>
>>336641907
You're bound to the Hunter's Dream by contract, and your contract as a Hunter being hired for the town's defense is to end the beast scourge for the evening. That's what it means to leave the dream. If you let Gehrman kill you, he ends your contract, and you wake up, no longer bound to the dream. "Wake up" from him killing you.
>>
>>336641907
>If the dreams are just places, then Gherman wouldn't need to kill you to release you from the dream, you would just leave using the lanterns like you do 1000 times during the game.
The thing is the lanterns only facilitate movement to two dimensions, and the original dimension where you received the blood ministration is not one of them.
>>
>>336641014
>>336641085
>>336641907
the "dreams" and "nightmares" in this case are obviously alternate dimensions, even when you "awake" using the hunters dream you're still sleeping, when you die in a dream you wake up

almost everything in the dream also happened in real life (byrgenwerth being considered forbidden, scourge, etc etc) while others may not, like the snake dudes in the woods or the church giants

here you're revived, you're trapped, so there's that too, you can't leave because mergo fucked everything up when the mensis ritual summoned him
>>
>>336641907
You take a contract that binds you to the Hunter's Dream. It is the first thing that happens in the game.

Madman Wallar and the other Tomb Prospectors.

the bloodbeast in the intro probably represents madness, scourge or bloodlust, and the messengers come to take you to the hunter's dream where you become a proper hunter
>>
>>336642331
>which is why the guy isnt there anymore
he's dead in a corner if I remember correctly.

When you first arrive in Yharman, you're in your original world. Only after you die are you actualy transported into the dream "dimension". >>336642262

It's one of the dimensions that can be accessed from the dream (the place where you meet Gehrman and the doll).
>>
>>336642512
>Only after you die are you actualy transported into the dream "dimension".
Nope, after you wake up following your blackout after recieving blood minitration you're in the nightmare. You don't have to die to go to the Hunter's Dream, you can run past/kill the first wolf and huntsman, and use the lantern thats in Central Yharnam.
>>
>>336642538

Sorry but this is THE best and most memorable song in the entire souls series and any game in the past 5 years.

>I'm talking about the original yharnam, the one you arrive in and receive blood, after you blackout, y ou're in the nightmare
I gotta know what fucking brain hemorrhage you went through to decide that there are multiple Yharnams.

Yharnam has no host, and it wasn't created by a Great One. It's the only "nightmare" where you'll never see the "NIGHTMARE SLAIN" text.
The only nightmares in the game are Hunter's Nightmare, Hunter's Dream and Nightmare of Mensis. The Lecture Hall and Nightmare Frontier are also part of the dream realm, everything else is the "real" world.
>>
The game takes place in the REAL WORLD. When you're not in a place specifically labeled a Dream or Nightmare you're in the real world. "Escaping the Dream" is fulfilling your contract in the Hunter's Dream.

By Kos, gain some eyes already.

Yharnam has no host because it's a real place, but I fail to see how you're in the waking world 24/7.

If by real world you count the multiple dimensions as real, then I agree.

Nice bloodborne screenshot.

You're in the waking world when you're in Yharnam.
You're in the dream realm when you enter one of the areas I mentioned in the previous post.

Neat. I think Dark Souls 2 only had 1 unused track and it was amazing.

I'm disagreeing with this shit just out of refusal to entertain that "it's all a dream" is remotely a thing, on account of being the lamest fucking plot twist to top all lame plot twists even conceived in the diarrhea of man.

Actually no souls games have a particularly amazing soundtrack.

It's actually unusual for a high profile Japanese game.

To be too clear to possibly leave any further interpretation or to be possibly disagreed with, the "Dream" realms, which means the Hunter's Nightmare, the Nightmare of Mensis (which consists of the Nightmare of Mensis, Lecture Hall, and Nightmare Frontier areas) and the Hunter's Dream are planes of reality conjured by various Great Ones.

Every other in game location you go to, which includes all areas not mentioned above, are the "real" world, as in, the base reality that is not conjured by a Great One, the natural world, the waking world, etc.

STOP TRYING TO BE DIFFICULT

The dreams and reality are layered atop of one another. You can go to real yharnam, and later on the dream 'descends' to overlap real yharnam, mixing the two.

I think how close the moon is represents how 'deep' in the dreamworld you are, naturally with the hunter's dream having the biggest moon and also the Moon Presence nearby.

Thank you. At least some people understand.
The DLC also rubs it in your face pretty thoroughly.
>>
>>336644436
just because it happened in another dimension doesnt make it not real, but anyway, now i'm not so sure that the yharnam we play in is an alt dimension, since it has no "host"

still that doesnt explain how you're revived

The entire game isn't "all a dream" though you troll
