Infinity Ward's last CoD was the first one to really get panned by the fanbase IIRC. Also their graphics in this reveal are noticeably poorer than the two prior ones to my eyes.
Now their turn comes around with another future/sci-fi entry (I'm not complaining about this) and a bunch of people want it to go back to the "good old days" of MW1&2. I don't mind, I loved both AW and BO3 and think this looks cool.
Just wait until the shitstorm when Sledgehammer's game next year is Advanced Warfare 2 or something. If it's another futuristic title, it's too late for them to do something else in response to fans clamoring for modern stuff again.

I think that a large portion of people started to dislike the series as the recycled more and more game ideas every year from previous games, and now that they are trying something radically different, the fans that stuck with them because they enjoyed the repetitive gameplay feel alienated. Its not what they want from a cod game.
I think black ops 3 got a lot of praise for taking a lot of the movement stuff out from AW
it still has wall running and stuff but it's not as far out there as AW was
also it has zombie mode. Treyarch is clearly the fan favourite ever since BLOPS.
IW on the other hand fucked up massively with Ghosts. MW3 wasn't terrible but it didn't have the impact MW 1&2 had. All of the talent is gone from that studio.
