Is the game really that bad or are reviewers just shit at it?I'm inclined to believe the latter, this shit feels amazing once you figure it out
>>336528918
controls arent the best, but the reviewers are just shit at them also
The problem with the game is not the controls. Though some level design aspects can be blamed because of them.
You can get good at the controls, but it doesn't stop them from being shit, which also doesn't stop people from saying "git gud" for disliking them.
I beat the game once and returned it. Hated it.
>>336529237
No you didn't.
Any game that forces a control scheme on me is a game I can't like, no matter what controls they are.
I'm not paying 60 bucks for a controller I hate.
Reviewers focused on the wrong thing.
The controls aren't the problem, it's the levels that suck.
>>336529317
Compelling argument. I guess you're right.
>>336529807
Let me guess: you're a white guy?
>>336529603
It feels like they played things a little too safe. It leans quite a bit on nostalgia for 64.
I still love the game (64 is my favorite vidya gaem of all time) and I was hoping that it'd be a strong springboard for the series going forward.
But I guess Star Fox is just dead now because of the reaction to it.
>>336530005
Damn, what gave it away? My name no being 20 characters long?
>>336529807
>Bought it
>Opened it

This is fake.
Andross makes me struggle.
>>336530171
Whites whine constantly and don't do their research on things before buying them. Whites are also passive-aggressive as hell.
>>336530197
Nah. Amazon Prime is pretty great like that.
>>336530360
>don't do their research on things
Does that mean non-whites get butthurt when people don't like Nintendo's garbage and return it? I don't understand your point.
>>336530360
If it's black send it back.
>>336530360
Lmao so true
Anyway I like the game and actually like the dual screen setup I just hate that the reticule on the main screen doesn't mean that you're gonna hit what it's aiming at. The artificial difficulty in aiming to force you to use the other screen is the worst part of the game. The motion controls work well and definitely help your aiming and they still would if the aiming on the main screen was better
>>336529438
You're specifically talking about gyro, right?
>why does the game make me use a controller
>1/10 will not play
>>336530360
I had a black friend who bought Shovel Knight on three different platforms
>>336532593
Good for him. Blacks actually like vidya.
>>336530360
Case in point: this faggotBefore you scream "LITERALLY WHOO," it's Wii Folder Josh. AKA the guy who attacked other Youtubers out of jealousy because they got early review copies and he didn't. AKA the guy who has an edgy dark persona that is literally anti-Nintendo /v/. AKA the guy who uploaded porn of himself jacking off and has a diaper fetish
>>336532938
Yet the idea of purchasing the same game three times is a counterpoint against your claim. I'm white and I purchased Shovel Knight once, enjoyed it as much as him.
Good for him but better for me for having the same experience + not spending another $30 on two more copies of the same thing
>>336528918

9/10 as a star fox one (no versus slightly hurt the multiplayer experience)

it's fucking bad, the controls are just awful, it's not even enjoyable. I really wanted to love this game but all I do is hate it more and more. It's really good, but I don't like that ALL of the focus is on the gameplay. I liked the amount of attention to the story and character interactions in Assault and really missed it in this one. I get why, though, it's supposed to be Another Star Fox 64.
>>336533786
Still though. There's so much crazy bullshit they could've done with the teleporters. Felt very reigned in

>>336528918
This happens literally every other Platinum game release, it gets panned because reviewers don't make a commitment to learn within the time period they have to review material. If you look at reviews from smaller outfits and individuals, not 24/7 content farms like Giant Bomb and Jimquisition, reception is much more positive.
>>336534562
point me the numbers, your argument still doesn't prove shit
like "MGS V is a 10/10 game accodring to reviews"
>come to 4chan
>everyone hates that game
>worst game of 2015 according to 4chan
>b-but I saw some people saying the game is good
>doesn't matter, players hate it on boards, then it's complete shit
>>336528918
>Is the game really that bad or are reviewers just shit at it?
The game is okay at-best. Some cool levels but they're literally only like 1 minute long apiece.
The bad parts are REALLY really bad. Gyrowing is miserable, very little replay value, not much reason to replay levels. Gyro does more harm than good and being forced to use it is not fucking fun.
It's honestly close, but it wouldn't be a good game even if the gyro controls weren't there. Too many All-range mode segments, too much focus on precise aiming instead of arcade shooting, hardly any alternate paths that are any challenge to unlock, and no alternate ending.
>>336534830
Most of /v/ loves MGSV, but you'd have to be deaf and blind to not see the seething disappointment any fan has. The game was literally unfinished.
>>336534651

The controls can be a hurdle at first, but once you get over that you realize that the rest of the game is just okay at best.
>>336535090
Ask anyone about the gameplay in 5. They love it. It's the story everyone shits on. And rightfully so, as a MGS fan the story in 5 isn't only unfinished, Act 2 is fucking abysmal.
>>336535087
so, that post if yours wasn't shitposting? what was it then? a ligitimate complaint?
I got this shit here and in like 3 hours I mastered everything about the controls, the shit plays smoother than 64 did, and levels offer far more challenge to earn high scores. 62/70 medals so far. Oh but I must be lying and shitposting since the controls suck and the game is unplayable according to ya.
Or maybe I'm just a better player than you.
>>336530360

>>336534773

>>336535347
No
You people are the ones that always yell from the top of the building "THE CONTROLS ARE FINE YOU JUST NEED TO GET GUD" while everyone else is saying "the controls are annoying, but even then the game just isn't much fun".
No one is saying the game is good besides controls. Everyone is saying that even without the controls the game is really subpar.
>>336535419
You're not a complete retard son. Congrats on learning how to play a game.
>>336528918
I'm having a lot of trouble balancing the controls. Both sticks and rotating the gamepad at the same time? It's probably possible, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna put in the time to get used to it.
>>336535432
>not separating story and gameplay in a MGS game

>>336535496

gitgud then we can talk about "how the game suck NOT because the controls". It shall be an interesting discussion.
>>336535705
>but you were the one saying the game was shit because the controls...
actually that was a different anon. Check the IDs.
I was genuinely excited for a new star fox game, but it isn't very good. Not bad, but really bland and uncreative aside from two or three levels.
If you want I can go and breakdown why I don't recommend Zero.
>>336535690
would work better with 3D on
>>336528918
Same thing happened with Wonderful 101, difference is that the sales aren't being that harmed by it, and that I just can't bring myself to care about the Wii U because I could never afford one
>>336536016
the difference is that W101 is actually a case of a good game marred by some annoying bits while still being a good package.
Zero is just...alright.
Controls are fine. I'd even say they're good, if very unintuitive.
No, the game's problem is everything else. Slow gameplay, no challenge, lack of content (effectively 10 arwing levels), awful alternative gameplay styles (effectively Star Fox's Big the Cat), and occasional slowdown.
The Arwing itself controls very well. It's just kind of a chore to do anything with it since the rest of the game is so lackluster.
Project Guard is prettyfunthough, so at least there's that.
As a longtime SF64 fan with an open mind, I think the game is a natural progression and I like the controls a lot.
I can see why they got rid of radar for the Z-Targeting. Some people don't like it. I like it though. It does the same thing for Star Fox that it did for Zelda OOT back when it first came out. That mechanic is the "cinematic experience" they talked about and it's visually effective in that regard. I like the all-range mode in this game as well.
Co-Op is probably the most fun part about this game for me. Me and my friends have had a pretty enjoyable time with it. It trumps whatever potential multiplayer vs they could have added.
I feel like too many people compare this against SF64 rather than considering it an alternative version of the game. I still play 64 to this day and I love things like on-rails bosses, macbeth, perma-lasers all through the campaign. But Zero offers a significantly different way to play what is essentially the same game. There are a lot of really fun parts to this game that I'm still enjoying and will for a long while.
Gyrowing is not the most fun part but it's only mandatory for one level so I don't care much. The graphics do not bother me. Length of the game doesn't matter to me considering I've been playing 64 for 19 years over and over again. I like aiming with the gyro. And I think it's worth the price tag.
why are you asking us? you've played the game, don't you know if it's good or not? are you one of those retards who can't form an opinion without someone else telling you what to think?
did an independent thought somehow manage to creep into your brain, and now you're confused because it contradicts what the reviewers have told you? so now you're coming to us so that we can tell you what you should think?
>>336529438
Fucking Playstation for forcing me use the same control with the same button layout for twenty years.
Bring back Fay and Miyu.
>>336528918
The controls are fine, the problem is the gyrowing levels and the lack of on rails levels. Also all the bosses are all range mode which sucks.
I really disliked it at first, but a few days later went back to it and hammered out some practice with the gyro controller in training mode.
I find it's a lot easier to set the game to "gyro when laser" or whatever its called. Meaning, it only accepts movement from the gyro when you're firing the laser. It's a lot easier to track the turret that way because you can just reset it in between waves so you always start centered. With some bosses it's better to switch back to "always on" mode, but that's typically bosses where you need to do fly by's rather than straight assaults.
Once you get the controls down pat, the game's actually pretty fun. I really like finding little patches to use the walker and wreck shit.
Gyro is shit, I'm glad it's only in one and a half levels. What the actual fuck were they thinking.
The levels are way too long, but I think Platinum wanted players to focus on getting high scores in individual levels rather than high scores on entire runs like 64.
I do miss the alt paths though. You can skip around a little bit but you're pretty much locked into one path.
Also, is there REALLY only one Andross fight?! No secret true path?I might have gotten emotional at the dedication at the end of the credits.
>>336536541
It's called starting a conversation anon
>>336537042
I thought the Dogfights were pretty fucking hype.
>>336536804
Wasn't Miyu turned into Kat?
How much replay value does the game have? Is it just like 64 where the replay value comes from playing all the routes and trying to high score? I know that SFG is long and full of missions.
>>336529438
Autism. You literally just said you like being contrarion for no reason.
>>336537186
Yeah, once you master the controls the dog fights are insane. I love chasing down Star Wolf while they're trying their damnedest to outmaneuver me and the turret. The AI isn't nearly as good getting out of the cross hairs of the chicken walker so it's pretty easy to brake if you suck.
>>336537584
Most of the replay value in Star Fox Zero is of the score attack variety.
>>336537042
In fairness the Andross fight is pretty long and involved.
>>336537676
*Break
Jesus, I need to go to bed.
>>336537584
>Is it just like 64 where the replay value comes from playing all the routes and trying to high score?
No. There are very very few alternate paths and most of the time it isn't even like a new goal, "just fly slightly to the left", "hold L to look at this guy", and "step on this switch".
There's very little replay value, especially considering the game is kind of bland.
>>336528918
Once you master the controls the game is easy as crap and all you got left is medal hunting.
>>336537584
Zero is more reliant on scoring high than on alternate paths. If you want the 64 experience, play Arcade mode after you beat the game, it's surprisingly addicting desu. I'm always trying out all 19 possible routes and it's really interesting.
>>336537778
When I realized the alternate path of Titania was just "Fly the Landmaster very high in this particular spot, and Peppy magically saves himself" I was pretty pissed off.
Krystal is cute
>>336537756
Yeah, I liked the Andross fight and how you really needed to have good reflexes and know when to use the Walker and when to use the arwing. It felt like an actual final boss that forced me to use skills developed over the course of the game rather than "This boss hits like a Mack Truck and takes damage like a tank".
Still just a little bummed there's no giant brain fight. I actually would not mind a $10 expansion that added in a "hard path". But I really doubt this game is going to get an expansions/DLC.
>>336538067
And she is no longer Canon.
>>336538062
Still, it leads to one of the best missions in the game.
>>336538062
I actually liked that honestly.
It demonstrated the potential of Zero's linearity and returning to levels with new upgrades being taken advantage of. For example, after you unlock Walker mode in the second level, you could replay Corneria and realize that you could use the Walker to press the button going to the alternate route that you couldn't before. And this isn't the only times this can happen. After you unlock the hacking mode for the Walker, you can skip the Gyrowing section of Area 3 by just flying to the top of the tower with your Arwing and hack it, I thought that was pretty clever. I only wish there was more of that and more substantial levels.

I think a lot of people just didn't give it enough time. Not saying the game doesn't have flaws, but giving it more time, I found I enjoyed myself more than I did initially. As opposed to a lot of other games where I found myself enjoying them at first and then just hating them by the end.

Nope.
Star Fox Adventure and Star Fox Assault were both good games
