I'm only going to argue with one of those points, the Tf2 one. people just continue to assume 'this' game for some reason is the tf2 clone, and the outright tf2 clone of overstretch somehow has more content depth than it does because of big daddy blizzard was good once.
at best this game fills the niche MNC created then destroyed and maybe overlaps with SMITE on some levels. but the fact is nobody will 'play' Battlebron publicly/stream it because blizzard will just keep incentivizing it's lil twitch whales.

I'd take it your problem with SMNC was that it was too moba too little shooter? Battleborn is a lot more like MNC where leveling up doesn't really give you a statistical advantage that becomes insurmountable, there's not real snowballing going on just because the other team gets more levels than you.
I mean, there's some upgrades for characters that make then a FUCK TON better but it's in a more "Versatility" way rather than "I'm fucked because his number is higher so he hurts me more".
An Oscar Mike who has his Napalm Grenades already is better than the guy who didn't get that level yet but he can still kick his ass if he outguns him.

It is pretty lame the Reyna is the only character in the whole game that can push a minion wave any time other than when the whole enemy team is so far behind they can't possibly defend.
I don't really like how weak all the buildable stuff is either. Unless the enemy is just 100% ignoring your lane there's no point in building turrets or speed boosters because the enemy players can kill them in under 10 seconds, the snipers in 2-3 hits.
But I don't understand what you mean by anyone benefitting from their range. There are only a handful of characters whos bullets don't go on forever.

Don't believe people when they tell you it's a MOBA. There is one game mode that utilizes MOBA elements, but is more like an FPS with abilities than not, which is why it was considered an Overwatch clone for a while there.
You get your bots safely to your trash muncher altar and you get points. You kill enemy players to keep them from killing your bots, then you kill enemy bots. You can build things in hotspots to accelerate your bots or attack enemies. Unlike your standard MOBA, gear build isn't picked up during the game, but rather it selected between games as things are collected, and activated during the game as part of a risk vs reward mechanic where you can either get an immediate boost, or you can use the points you'd use to activate your gear to build in hotspots instead, gaining you more level up points.
There's also a single player (+co op) campaign, and king of the hill style game modes that also utilize MOBA elements in that if you fall behind in levels, you can scoot away from the action a little bit to attack monsters in PvE to gain activation points and levels before returning to the fray, but that's entirely optional.

The gear boosts are relatively small compared to other MOBAs, to my understanding, unless you're sacrificing one thing for something else.
It's my understanding that only a very small selection of characters benefit so significantly from certain gear boosts.
Besides, you technically can choose which gear to activate first, so if you want to be adaptable, just choose some decent basic stuff with a wide range of uses and make up the difference with skill.
The real gamechanger here is the mutation system, or whatever it's called. The kind of shit that alters how your abilities work SIGNIFICANTLY.
