I've had the same phone # since I was a teenager
I haven't cheated since I was a teenager

I have a problem with this as a 23 year old adult who would like to play CS 1.6 again without his impulsive young friends to lead him into hacking.

You can sue companies if your name is publicly available without you agreeing it being up there.
Your name is archived on their database and honestly if you do willingly post all your information publicly online then its your problem and the consequences fall onto you.
As for phone numbers what the fuck is valve going to do about your phone number and hundreds of innocent parents of dumb children who manage to get scammed weekly out of their csgo skins

Having to tie an e-mail and mobile phone number to a single account is pretty benign.

I'm worried that we're reaching a point where being able to live online under an effective pseudonym, or even semi-anonymously like on 4chan, is going the way of the Dodo. Certain countries keep suggesting that registration for social media sites should require some sort of government ID, as ridiculous as that sounds.

We're one policy slip-up away from this becoming some sort of global precedent. I'm not terribly worried so long as at least a few people in the world stay vigilant about this sort of thing.

you also don't need any form of ID to buy them and you can keep them unregistered
>>
>>336499281
It did happen to me, basically I entered my number for the two way security verification to activate my mobile telephone as an authenticator and instead of an SMS with the PIN I got constant calls from an automated phone relay.

2 Days later a Valve supporter deleted the number and the calls stopped.

>>
I don't get it honestly, how will your phone number improve your matchmaking experience?
>>
>>336500579
it won't. they'll ban cheaters by phone number to try to stop people making hundreds of steam accounts.
>>
>>336500579
People can't make "smurf accounts" since you have to tie the account to a phone number. Also stops those guys who use cheats like wall/aim hacks with their throw-away accounts that they purchased for 2 dollars in a steam sale. This is of course assuming that you can only register a phone number once and if you get banned from Prime MM you can't re-use that phone number.
>>
>>336501041
I would assume that is the case, and you can only switch once every six months. Again there is really nothing wrong with it since you dont HAVE to opt into it
>>
>>336501242
You don't have to, but most people will to avoid hackers.
>>
>>336501242
Right, its just an option for those tired of playing with smurfs or cheaters unless those guys have multiple phone numbers.
>>

That's incorrect. There are 4 tiers of phone number that are registered on the national database, if you want an example go get a free number from Twilio and try to activate a facebook or gmail account from it. It's instantly denied as a tier 3 number cannot be used for identity authentication.

I"m not going to bother reading the thread to see if anyone's bothered pointing this out yet, but i'll say it anyways.

As of the most recent VAC update, when an account is banned any accounts linked to the same phone number are also automatically banned.

Valve is using this as a way to both herd the goyim into connecting phones and combatting hackers.

Most will see this as no big problem (because hey! no hackers!) but in reality it's just one of the ways they're making everyone OK with attaching your phone number and personal info to your account.

Stay wary of their schemes.
