As someone whose favorite genre of games is JRPGs, yes VII is a great game. It's much, MUCH more difficult than the other games, to the point you'll be buying 10 or so healing items everytime you return to base for a while. Story is much more appealing. Not just a repeat of the HDN1 story flow where something happens, so you have to go to each nation 1 by 1 and recruit them. First third or so of the game doesn't even take place in the same universe.

VII is still archaic at best. Regular attacks just devolve into a fixed combo because anything else gimps yourself. Environments are laughably restricted and reused, especially for a PS4 game.

The only place the gameplay came close to being decent was the4 CPUs fightand even that was a pain because you can't properly control aggro.

A lot of characters weren't party members in V II. The party size in RB3 was outrageous and most characters were useless... But at least there, they got EXP out of battle. I really do not see the appeal of these games.
The story feels like it was made by a 13 year old who just discovered what sexuality is.
The "story" consists of trialed events that have been done to death and anime troupes that are played so by-the-book and safe that you can already guess what character's entire arc will be before they're even introduced. Plot holes and character inconsistencies are extremely common all for the sake of massive fanservice but I'll get to that in a moment.
The gameplay itself feels like it's nothing more than Chrono Trigger with 3D movement. Which would have been good...a decade ago. It uses gameplay mechanics and styles that have been done to death and introduces nothing to them.
Ultimately all would be forgiven if it was at least a decent VN but it isn't since any fanservice sequence will NEVER go past the cheesecake borderline. You might get innuendos, cliches and the occasional bouncy tits but that's about it.
Ultimately they should have just fucking made it a VN like they probably were planning on doing anyway. Anything other than the tacky fanservice and character interactions just feel shallow and horribly cliche. I honestly question who thought of this as a good idea and how the fuck do they keep on making more.
This is literally a boy's-first-fap type of video game and it knows it but it never pushes past it. It never takes itself seriously enough to actually put forth effort into making a decent game but yet wants to be serious enough to be looked at as more than a VN. Why is it so popular?
